Alexa Ray Joel is bouncing back beautifully after her brief hospital stay this weekend, thanks to the help of her parents Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley.

The 23-year-old called 911 Saturday after an apparent drug overdose in which she took eight Traumeel pills, a medication, and had trouble breathing.

"She has the most attentive parents," says a family friend of Alexa Ray.

"She is very close to Billy, and Alexa and her mom are really best friends."

"They're focused on making sure she is going to be alright."

Alexa Ray Joel was said to be distraught over a boyfriend.

"[Christie Brinkley] rushed to her daughter's side," says a friend. "She was worried sick, showered her with affection and told she would support her always."

Since the incident, triggered by her rocky relationship with ex-boyfriend Jimmy Riot, Christine and Billy have made sure their only child knows people care.

"Alexa is the sweetest girl. She is one of the dearest souls on Earth," says the friend. "She's an artist and like all artists, she's always very passionate."

"Growing up is hard enough, but under a microscope it's unbelievably difficult ... she will recover from this and be horrified it became such a spectacle."

In the aftermath of Alexa Ray Joel's drug overdose and hospitalization Saturday, sources say that the singer may have been upset over a boyfriend.

According to a source, she took Traumeel, a homeopathic medication, and "She became worried about breathing, which is why 911 was called."

It has been rumored that Alexa's overdose was a suicide attempt, but that has not been confirmed. An accidental overdose is still a possibility.

Adds another source close to the situation who was quoted by People: "She was apparently distraught over an argument with her boyfriend."

The singer has been released from the hospital and her father Billy Joel is now with her. Emotional highs and lows are not new to the singer.

Fortunately, Alexa Ray Joel is alright.

She recently posted on MySpace: "Is anybody else finding it a difficult "dating world" out there? I'm so terrible at dating – I don't know if I'll ever get used to it!"

"And I HATE the game-playing! I live in the greatest city in the world and I can't seem to meet an interesting guy who also happens to be NICE. Go figure... "

Alexa Ray Joel even admitted last year that, like her father, "I can get very dark. I can get very in my own head and depressed as many other artists can."

Her mom is Billy's ex-wife, Christie Brinkley. Hopefully she gets the help she needs, regardless of what happened Saturday, so it doesn't happen again.

Billy Joel's 23-year-old daughter with Christie Brinkley, Alexa Ray Joel, is in stable condition after being transported to a New York hospital just a few hours ago.

According to sources close to the situation, authorities arrived to Alexa's Manhattan apartment after a 911 call alerted them to Alexa having trouble breathing.

A female caller told a dispatcher she had "taken pills" and "wanted to die." Paramedics found her having difficulty breathing, but got her medical attention.

A source with knowledge of the situation says: “There was an indication the call came from Alexa’s roommate, but it could've been Alexa Ray Joel herself."

The singer is "conscious" and expected to recover.

Investigators at the NYPD’s Sixth Precient say a drug overdose or even an attempted suicide have not been ruled out, but there is nothing confirmed as of yet.

Rumors suggest she may have been struggling with her parents' respective divorces over the past year and a half as well as other personal problems.

Here's wishing Alexa a speedy recovery.

The stars came out to see Long Island native Billy Joel perform at Hampton (Social) @ Ross Saturday night. On hand were two of his favorite ladies: ex-wife Christie Brinkley, with whom he remains on good terms, and their daughter, singer Alexa Ray Joel. See below:

We would never have guessed that Billy Joel's daughter would be a certifed cutie, but her mom is a supermodel, after all. We heart Alexa Ray Joel. Not just because she's pretty, either - it's nice to see a famous family that's not entirely dysfunctional!

The entire five-show summer concert series, in which mega-artists perform at the Hamptons' Ross School for small, intimate crowds, opened with Prince and closes with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. Tickets for the Billy Joel concert started in the thousands.

Also in attendance were talk show goddess Kelly Ripa and her hubby, Mark Consuelos, Mary-Kate Olsen and troubled 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin, among others.

Until yesterday, we knew Alexa Ray Joel as the daughter of prolific musician Billy Joel, a terrific singer in her own right, and an all-around nice, grounded person.

The product of Joel's past marriage to Christie Brinkley, the 21-year-old served as maid of honor in Joel's recent marriage to former Top Chef host Katie Lee Joel.

Now she's serving Perez Hilton with a message:

Alexa Ray Joel was thrust into the spotlight Sunday when she responded to a picture of her posted on the exponentially overrated, unfunny site, PerezHilton.com.

Venting via her MySpace page, Alexa Ray called Perez Hilton "quite dangerous," and was sickened to see commenters "picking apart the appearance" of her "8 year-old sister."

Yesterday, Alexa Ray clarified her opinion for Us Weekly:

"To paraphrase my father, he always said: 'don't take crap from anybody.' I've had a lot of people advise me in this industry to get a thicker skin and turn a blind eye to the vicious trends of the tabloid publications and celebrity gossip sites, and their dangerous effects on young women, and society in general. But if I were to follow their advice, and do nothing, I feel I would only be perpetuating something which I believe to be fundamentally wrong. I stand by my original posting."

Interesting guidance. To paraphrase Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler, MySpace is the place to vent all of your frustrations about marriage, love, life, etc.

Alexa, who Perez called "no supermodel," came to the defense of herself and also her half-sister, Brinkley's daughter with her latest estranged ex, Peter Cook, who was criticized by commenters on the a-hole's posting.

Billy Joel has done alright for himself. Multiple car accidents and drinking problems aside, this is a well-known, acclaimed, rich singer.

One that has been married to Christie Brinkley.

Meanwhile, Joel has also fathered a young, hopeful singer: Alexa Ray Joel. There's just one problem:

Some people mix up this 20-year daughter with her 25-year old step mother. Indeed, Katie Lee Joel - host of Top Chef - tied the knot with Billy a couple years ago and won't exactly get confused with Anna Nicole Smith, either.

It would be awfully embarassing if Billy ever got his two girls mixed up. But do you know which young hottie is which?

Despite a heartbreaking sex scandal involving her husband and his teenage assistant earlier this summer, you can't keep Christie Brinkley down. Here, the supermodel shows just how proud she is of her eldest daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, after the 20-year-old singer's performance Thursday in New York City.

Alexa Ray, whose debut CD has been released to critical praise, performed as opening act for pop singer Teddy Geiger. Mom wasn't the only cheering: The "Piano Man" himself, dad Billy Joel, also was there. As for that dirtbag Peter Cook? We have no freaking idea where he was.

The daughter of Christie Brinkley and ex-husband Billy Joel is releasing her first album tomorrow, T.H. Gossip has learned.

Alexa Ray Joel, 20, has quietly been working on her music debut, Sketches, which will be released through her own independent record label. Fans will be able to buy it from her official site, as well as download it from all the usual places on the Internet.

You can already hear three of the songs on Alexa Ray's MySpace page. They include "The Heart of Me," "Come Home to Me Do" and "Sapphire Night." They are all bluesy pop numbers in which Alexa accompanies herself on piano. She may be more Melissa Manchester circa 1973 than Billy Joel, but you can pick up Dad's influence in her recordings just the same.

Alexa Ray is here to stay, and she's serious about her career. She joins a not-so-select group of second-generation pop stars like Julian Lennon, his brother Sean, Ben and Sally Taylor (Carly Simon and James Taylor's kids), the Wilson Phillips gang, Ricky Nelson's sons and Sting's son Joe Sumner.

Interestingly, most of those artists have opted not to sign with big record companies and instead put out their own CDs.

Of course, the tabloids will pour over Alexa's lyrics to see if there's anything about her mom's soured marriage to philandering architect Peter Cook, who is now separated from Brinkley after he did his assistant, Diana Bianchi, a year younger than Alexa Ray.

Regardless, something tells us that the message â€" if there is one (the sex scandal broke only weeks ago) â€" will be fairly hidden. The girl has more important things to sing about.
