The Beaver, a Jodie Foster film that stars her embattled friend Mel Gibson, is being pushed pack by six weeks to a May 6 release date, its distributor said.

Summit Entertainment originally hoped to release it in 2010, but it was pulled amid Gibson’s nasty domestic dispute with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.

A May release provides Summit time to build word-of-mouth and allows Foster, who’s filming another project until mid-March, more time to promote it.
