Whoopi Goldberg is extremely lucky to be alive right now.
And she explained why during an appearance on The View this morning.
This wasn't a regular appearance by Goldberg, however, who typically occupies the main seat on this daily talk show and leads the group discussion.
This appearance was filmed from the comedian's home and aired via satellite, due to a pretty major medical crisis that nearly took the star's life this week.
“Hey, yes, it’s me,” Whoopi began. “I am here. I am up and moving around — not as fast as I’d like to be, but I am okay. I’m not dead. Here’s what happened.”
Please do tell, Whoopi. We're curious and concerned.
The 63-year old went on to say she had pneumonia in both lungs and was septic and it got very bad very quickly.
“Yes, I came very close to leaving the earth,” she explained on air, adding:
“Good news, I didn’t. Thank you for all of your good wishes, all of the wonderful things that people have been saying.
"Even people who aren’t huge fans of mine have actually been saying nice thing about me.”
She then quipped:
We all know that’s going to change when I get back, but for right now, it’s brilliant. Ladies, I cannot wait to see y’all. This has been interesting, and I’ll tell you about it when we’re all at the table.”
Goldberg has not hosted the show since February 6.
Joy Behar updated viewers on her friend's condition about two weeks ago, telling the audience:
“She’s not feeling well. She’s actually recovering from pneumonia. I saw her last night and she’s very funny still, and we had big laughs. She’s getting there, she’s on the mend."
Earlier this week, another iconic TV host revealed a serious health condition.
We wish him and Goldberg the best.
