After the explosive Season 7 premiere of 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?, we knew that it was only the beginning.
(Literally. That’s how seasons work)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Big Ed Brown is back. Poor Liz.
Bilal and Shaeeda arrive for a peace summit with Shahidah. It goes poorly. Catastrophically so.
Libby and Andrei hold a housewarming party, and Libby finally gets specific about her music aspirations. It’s not what anyone expected.
Sumit undergoes the rest of his mom’s meltdown, but poor Jenny doesn’t know what they’re saying. And she fears the worst.
Jovi and Yara explain why things are so tense with Miss Gwen. It turns out that it’s Jovi’s doing.
And Kimberly tells her mother and her son about her plan to propose to Usman. Girl.
Ed Brown and Liz Woods

Franchise villain Big Ed is back. Even after having broken up with her 8 times via text, he and Liz are back together. Liz deserves better, but it looks like she can no longer see that. Ed claims that therapy has made him into a changed man. But no one in either of their lives seems to really support their engagement … because, honestly, who would?
Liz’s friends are at least willing to hear them out

J. Lo and Tawny (Liz and Yara’s respective friends seem to be in some sort of extravagant names competition … and Yara’s friend Cymphony is winning) join Liz and Ed for dinner. But they’re Liz’s friends, and they have not forgotten the cruel things that Ed did to Liz or the way that he has treated her. We haven’t, either.
Liz knows that it’s tough

Like so many people who have to smile and nod when their friend gets back with a total jerk, her friends are in an awkward position. They’ve heard all of Liz’s post-breakup callouts of Ed. Meanwhile, the reverse is also true. Ed’s extended family is furious. Ed’s daughter, Tiffany, feels a lot of misplaced desires to “protect” her dad — who is an accused sexual predator — and apparently broke the news of their engagement to many people before Ed could, because she was so upset. In her mind, and now in their minds, Liz is the problem, not Ed.
Later, Ed meets up with Rich

Rich has been talking to Ed’s mom on a daily basis, but he and Ed have not spoken in about four months. They meet up in the dead of night in a public park as if one of them is brokering stolen classified documents from the Mar-a-Lago hoard. They have a very painful conversation. Rich cannot condone this engagement. And though they have been close friends for 15 years (again, Rich is close with Ed’s mom!), Ed gives him an ultimatum — he can’t be in his life if he can’t accept this. That’s heartbreaking.
Bilal Hazziez and Shaeeda Sween

The two arrive for what is supposed to be a peace summit with Shahidah. There is already plenty of tension in the air. Bilal did not exactly help to set the move when he confused the name of his wife and his ex-wife on the car ride over. Is that a normal thing to do? Yes, of course. But it sucks, and the timing could not have been worse.
Shaeeda is nursing a grudge

Shahidah came to her house and confronted her about her intentions … and spoke about the prenup. That is a sensitive topic, and she felt that it was intrusive and hostile.
Actually, it’s more than that

Shaeeda cries while speaking to the confessional camera about it. She clearly has a lot of feelings about this. She feels that Shahidah already has many advantages — that she has the upper hand — and that she brought up the prenup and more just to be a bully.
Shahidah joins them

She had previously been astonished when producers asked her (privately) if she plans to apologize to Shaeeda. Literally she asked “for what?” That energy is immediately apparent as she sits down with her ex-husband and his new wife.
This is not RuPaul’s Best Friends Race

By which we mean that Shaeeda calls out Shahidah’s behavior from the day in question. It is clear that this has been festering in her mind for some time (relatable!) and she feels that Shahidah was hostile and out of control.
Shahidah’s response could have been better

It is certainly possible that editors did her dirty by deleting some of the conversation, but Shahidah stands up and seems to fly off the handle. Bilal says almost nothing, but he actually begins praying as the women confront each other. Sorry, my guy, but it looks like you can’t manipulate mansplain malewife your way out of this one.
Shahidah’s done

She removes her audio equipment, places it on the table, and storms off. Shaeeda, meanwhile, is proud of herself for standing her ground without standing up or returning Shahidah’s aggressive energy. Bilal is furious. He and his wife drive home in silence. He feels embarrassed that all of this went down in public, and he is watching his words to avoid saying something that he regrets.
Elizabeth Potthast and Andrei Castravet

Celebrating their new home, they have invited over friends and family. Libby’s father and sisters are there. Even her homophobic mom, Pamela, and her husband are there. Charlie is not. Meanwhile, Becky has the most eye-catchingly gorgeous blouse of the evening, but we give Jenn points for how that dress hugs her booty.
Who invites their immigration attorney to a housewarming party?

Maybe they’re just super good friends. Maybe they were desperate to invite people who are willing to sign a waiver and appear on camera. We have to wonder if this counted as billable hours. Anyway, love the commentary from Libby’s sisters as always.
Libby of course gives a tour

She shows her homophobic mom (look, if Pamela didn’t want us to mention it every time then maybe she shouldn’t have posted “take back the rainbow” stuff during Pride) and friend Marisol her daughter’s room. It is an unusual but honestly kind of adorable room. We cannot decide if we love or hate the pink feather chandelier. Mostly, we’re just glad that we don’t have to dust it.
Libby is dropping hints that she wants to launch a music career

She does refuse to actually sing when asked to. Marisol bluntly tells the camera that this tells her that she’s not serious about this. Meanwhile, Libby shares that she’s not dreaming of releasing a pop album or whatever — she wants to sing lullabies. Jenn’s attempt (and failure) to hide how hilarious this is very fun to watch … again, Libby’s sisters really help tie the show together.

Later, the family is helping to clean. Andrei manages to resist escalating the situation for no reason, which we suppose that he gets points for? Anyway, Libby’s homophobic mom starts pushing hard for the family to start inviting Charlie again. They remind her that this is a boundary, that he has to get help for his serious drinking and behavior issues first. Pamela pushes back, trying to insist that other people — like Andrei — drink just as much. Attacking someone else is just classic denial.
Jenny Slatten and Sumit Singh

Sahna is still having a meltdown over Sumit’s revelation that he married Jenny. She acts like this is some fling, and not the end result of nearly a decade-long relationship. (Jenny deflowered Sumit in, what, 2014? The relationship began even earlier)
Make no mistake, Sahna is not backing down

She doesn’t want Sumit at her home, or at any family gatherings. She tells him that she doesn’t even want him at her funeral. No one else speaks as much, but Anil does tear up and wipe his eyes.
Sumit is really hung up on this

Part of it is cultural. But we also think that Sumit is just personally very attached to his parents. His mother is so hung up on what random neighbors will say to her about her son’s wife … to the point where she’s willing to cut ties with him. And he feels that he will be lost without his family. It’s tough.
And Jenny has no idea what anyone is saying

Oh, she can tell that it’s awful, but she doesn’t know the details. And when Sahna storms out and Sumit follows her, Jenny cannot help but be afraid that he’s going to choose his family over their marriage. He has let his family bully him into a lot of things in the past. This is not an irrational fear. Remember, they forced him into an arranged marriage during his relationship with Jenny. He struggles to stand up to them.
Sumit tries to appease his mother

He hugs her, but she does not hug him back. She tells him to not follow her. It’s honestly hard to watch. There are people in this world who do not deserve love, not even from their families. Sumit is not one of them.
Jenny is pissed

She’s upset from hearing the family yelling and crying. She doesn’t know exactly what people said. And yes, she absolutely takes it out on Sumit, wishing that he had shown as much of a desire to reassure and comfort her as he did towards his very hostile mother. It’s an ugly scene.
But they talk it through

He affirms his love for Jenny and tells her a lot of what they said. He reminds her that they are together, but that he’s counting on her emotional support just as she counts on his.
Jovi Dufren and Yara Zaya

One of viewers’ favorite couples heads out to a winery, with Jovi semi-joking that he would go every day if he could. Mylah is with them, so while he is excited to go somewhere “by themselves” (meaning as a family), Yara notes that it’s not really a date.
Miss Gwen is not a babysitter these days

Months ago, Jovi confronted his mother about how she wasn’t really hanging out with Yara and helping with Mylah as much when he was away for work. There are no bad guys in this story — Yara is a mom and takes full responsibility for that, Jovi was advocating for his wife and daughter, and Gwen was probably a little tired of driving three hours to be a free nanny. Unfortunately, Jovi and Gwen had a pretty serious row, and now things are not good. Yara is heartbroken, affirming her love for her mother-in-law.
It calls to mind some other family worries

Yara has not been able to see her own mom in a long time. They are back home in Ukraine. Yara has some documents, but does not yet have her green card. If she flew to Ukraine, she might not be able to return. So she has to keep waiting.
Meanwhile, the news is bad

This was filmed very early this year, before Putin launched his brutal invasion of the nation, but we all remember the speculation in the weeks ahead of the invasion. It is likely that Yara had to film this confessional after February 24, in which case she already knew what was happening to her homeland while commenting on footage from a simpler time.
At the winery

Yara and Jovi talk about wine a little — clearly, Yara would enjoy drinking wine with my mother, because she prefers dry wines. Meanwhile, she and Jovi talk about her breasts. He reassures her, she reiterates her dissatisfaction with them and desire for a boob job. Jovi jokes that he likes “fake boobs” which he has seen on strippers, but Yara seems to want something more understated — more along the lines of repairing what she perceives as damage from 17 months of breastfeeding. To the confessional camera, Jovi admits that her breasts are not as sexy as they once were. Oof. But, as we all know, bigger stakes are coming.
Kimberly Menzies and Usman Umar

We hear from Usman as their segment begins, as he tells the cameras that his goal is to become “the most famous human being on earth.” Spectacular, no notes. Anyway, he’s in Nigeria, and while his music career doesn’t really mesh with his family, he still wants them to like his other big plan — to marry Kimberly.
He speaks to his brother, Mohammed

Who asks a very reasonable question once he hears that Kimberly is another 50-something American woman. We all know the answer, but Usman says that it boils down to love.
Oh, and getting a second wife, for breeding purposes

Usman reassures his brother that Kimberly is totally cool with the idea of getting a second wife, one who is younger and can give him children. Kimberly says as much, too, but becomes emotional and volatile when the topic comes up. So … you know, she’s not really that cool with it.
Meanwhile, in San Diego

Kimberly picks up her smokeshow of a son, Jamal, from the airport. He flew in from New York to see her before she goes back to Nigeria. Jamal is a fan-favorite, both because he looks out for his mom and because he is strikingly handsome. Also, he’s no fan of Usman.
Jamal visits with Sally

Kimberly’s mother, Sally, passed away last winter. This was obviously filmed before that. Our heart breaks for Kimberly and for Jamal, who are obviously having a bittersweet time as they watch these episodes air.
Kimberly shares her plans

She is not just returning to Nigeria to meet Usman’s family. She is planning to propose to Usman. Then, she will bring him to the US on a K-1 visa and they will marry in America. Jamal is stunned, especially after all that he saw when they filmed the Tell All. He is worried about his mom, but he has a realistic idea of how little she can be dissuaded.
She has the ring all picked out

And now that she’s told those closest to her, it’s time to start packing
This means that Jamal gets way more information than he needed

He is taken aback by her red negligee that she packs. He does admit to the confessional camera that his mother will ignore as many red flags as she wants. So basically, he’ll ignore the red nightie and she’ll ignore the red flags.
