Upon learning that her ex-husband had been arrested for theft and drug possession, Maci Bookout reportedly had the same reaction as most members of The Hollywood Gossip staff.
She was basically the human version of the shrug emoji.
It’s not that Maci doesn’t want to see Ryan Edwards straighten his life out…
… she has simply been down this road before.
Her expectations are unfortunately very low.

The Ballad of Maci and Ryan
Bookout and Edwards have been broken up for many years, but they share a son named Bentley. So they remain at least somewhat a part of each other’s lives.
Edwards Just Got Arrested Again, Though
He bailed on a bar tab of $36 after ordering six whiskey drinks in a Tennessee restaurant earlier this month.
The Server Contacted the Police
And then the cops tracked down Edwards and arrested him on a charge of theft, they also noted he had an outstanding warrant for heroin possession.
So He Was Placed Behind Bars
Edwards has been denied bail and will remain in county jail until April.
Crazy, Right?!?
Eh, sort of. Sources say Maci isn’t exactly stunned by this development.
Color Her Not Shocked
“Maci’s not surprised,” an insider explains to Radar Online. “She’s more relieved because at least he’s not out acting like a fool. This will give him more time to detox.”
What About Ryan’s Parents?
They “aren’t taking it well,” this same Radar report states. They’re upset and surprised that “he’snot coming home for a pretty good awhile.”
Do They Bear Any Responsibility Here?
“Jen and Larry enable him just like his wife does,” this insider continues. “They choose not to believe he’s still the way he is.”
Just So Sad All Around
“It’s sad to see it come down to all of this,” the source laments. “But he’s the only one who doesn’t care.”
Maci Has Spoken Out Previously About Ryan’s Legal Troubles
She appeared on Kailyn Lowry’s podcast last summer after Edwards was arrested then for drug possession. “He’s not allowed to contact us or anything like that. But I mean, he did get arrested, I don’t know … I mean, I do know why, but I don’t want to say,” she explained at the time, referencing a restraining order she had against Ryan.
She Sang a Similar Tune Back Then
“I feel better that he is in jail because I know he’s safe there, if that makes sense,†Bookout told Lowry and cohost Lindsie Chrisley. “I know he’s not driving around. He’s not doing something that could potentially hurt him or an innocent person. So it sucks, crappy situation for everyone.â€Â
What About Bentley?
That’s the thing. There’s a young boy at the center of this mess. “It’s Bentley’s dad,†Maci also told Lowry, explaining why she’ll never dismiss Edwards outright. “Although Bentley’s about to be 10, I’m not sure how much time [Ryan] can make up now – but still, I mean, no one ever wants to tell their child that something terrible has happened to their parent.”
How Much Does Bentley Know?
“[He] understands,” Maci has said. “He doesn’t ever ask questions. We fill him in on what’s going on and as sad as it is, the reason he doesn’t ask questions is because it’s kind of just always been.â€Â
And His Grandparents Remain in the Picture
“We’re not always going to get along or agree with each other, but the four us do a really good job of making sure that everything is good for Bentley and that Bentley still gets to spend time with them,” Maci told Kailyn. “In that aspect everything is normal for Bentley because again, that is what he’s used to, is being able to see Jen and Larry.â€Â
Where Does Mackenzie Stand on All of This?
Ah, yes, Ryan’s wife. She had to give birth to their son, Jagger, without Ryan around because he was in rehab for 90 days last year.
She Must Be Ready to Divorce Him, Right?
Not quite. Sources tell Radar that Mackenzie is “irate” over this latest arrest, but she doesn’t plan to take any action.

“She’s going to get over it,” this same insiders says. “She doesn’t care at this point. She’s all in with him.”
And You Won’t Believe This…
The couple talked “three weeks ago about having another baby,” Radar alleges. That would be truly bonkers and flat out irresponsible.
Has Ryan Commented at All?
Not recently. And he won’t for awhile: Remember, he’s in jail. He’s staying in jail for many months. The guy clearly needs a lot of help and we really do hope he gets it.
