Kelly Dodd has had a dramatic year, even for a Real Housewife.
She’s faced wild accusations, ended a pretty serious relationship, and feuded intensely with multiple castmates.
But when she looks back on it all, it looks like 2019 is going to be considered a good year.
Why? Because it’s the year when she began dating Fox News correspondent Rick Leventhal.
And it’s also the year that Rick proposed to her with a massive diamond ring.
That’s right: Kelly Dodd is engaged!

Wednesday night, Kelly Dodd took to Instagram to share this happy photo featuring Rick Leventhal, a huge ring, and this caption: “I can’t believe I just got engaged !! @rickleventhal you are my Prince and my dream come true!!!”
Kelly giddily shared the news
In addition to making sure that fans on social media got a good look at her ring, she and Rick also spoke to People. Kelly began by saying: “I’m beyond excited for our future together!”
She keeps singing Rick’s praises
“Rick is my best friend. My partner in crime. I’m so in love,” Kelly continues to gush.
It sounds like it’s just now sinking in
“I can’t believe this happened to me,” Kelly marvels. “I feel like I just won the lottery.” To be fair, with a ring like that, she might as well have.
So how did he propose?
“He said this amazing speech about our love,” Kelly describes. “And then got down on one knee and pulled out this giant ring.”
She’s at a loss for words
“I couldn’t believe it!” Kelly expresses. And yet it is oh-so real. Rick says so himself.
Kelly’s not the only one feeling head-over-heels
Rick Leventhal, a Fox News reporter and now a fiance, tells People: “I feel like the luckiest guy on earth.”
So when is the date?
Kelly says that they are considering October 10, 2020 — notably, a date that Kelly “joked” would be their wedding date back in September. Whether that actually happens … remains to be seen. A lot of factors go into setting a date.
Kelly raved over her ring on Instagram
“I got engaged!” she announced. “Look at that, it’s a little big. Engaged!”
Rick was happy to see that she was happy
“You deserve a big ring,” Rick said. He’s clearly besotted. Adorable.
She even shared the context of the proposal
“Oh my God, look at that, right there,” Kelly said, showing followers a glimpse at an outdoor fireplace and two glasses of wine. “Look at how he did it!”
She cannot contain her excitement
“Look how badass that ring is. BAM!” Kelly announced. It’s kind of adorable to see her so giddy.
Emily Simpson was one of the first to comment
“Yay!!! Congrats! Can’t wait to celebrate tomorrow,” Emily wrote just after Kelly’s announcement.
And so was Braunwyn Windham-Burke
“Omg !!!! I’m so happy for you! Can’t wait to see you tomorrow and celebrate !!” Braunwyn gushed in her own comment at around the same time.

We hope that Kelly Dodd’s daughter, Jolie, is as over-the-moon as Kelly. Some may feel like Kelly and Rick are jumping into things after only months of dating, but that’s a much longer period of time for someone Jolie’s age.
Kelly has had a troubled year
Her minor altercation with castmate Shannon Beador (and then, a short time later, Gina Kirschenheiter — bonking BOTH on the head) turned into a whirlwind of drama. A rumored “barfight” (in which she allegedly removed a woman’s hand from her now-ex boyfriend’s shoulder) only fueled rumors that Kelly was “unstable” or “dangerous.” Yikes.
She gave as good as she got
When asked by Andy Cohen on “Watch What Happens Live” if she had come to regret playing whack-a-mole with Shannon and Gina’s heads, Kelly replied that she only wished that she’d bonked them harder. She knows how to ride that wave of drama. Note to self: do not feud with Kelly.
But success is the best revenge
Kelly is more or less at odds with the Tres Amigas right now, and her happy news may get under their skin. Or maybe it won’t. Only time will tell what sort of “comments” they’ll have about this engagement.
And she also dodged a bullet
It wasn’t so long ago — in fact, it was early this year — that Kelly seemed to be angling for a proposal from her now ex-boyfriend. Most of her fans aren’t exactly complaining that things fell through. Rick seems like an upgrade, and not just because he actually produced a ring.
