Domestic violence takes many forms.
Its victims come in all shapes and sizes, and they belong to every demographic under the sun.
The fact remains, however, that most victims of spousal abuse are women, and so, men who have been assaulted by a female partner might be reluctant to report the crime due to the common belief that only women can be victims of violence in the home.
The nightmare scenario for a man who’s been abused by a former partner is that he’ll be laughed out of court for the simple fact that he’s physically capable of defending himself against his smaller ex.
And according to Andrew Glennon, that’s basically what happened to him when he reported that he had been abused by Amber Portwood.

The Downward Spiral
Back in July, Amber Portwood was arrested on domestic assault charges after allegedly attacking Andrew Glennon in the former couple’s Indiana home.
A Short Fuse
By now, the story is familiar to Teen Mom fans. Amber and Andrew had planned to take their son James to a local fireworks display, and Amber became irate when they missed the event.
Another Mugshot
Portwood was arrested (yet again) after Andrew reported that she had threatened him with a machete and attacked him while he was holding James.
The Proof
In the months that followed, video and audio evidence that Portwood had been abusive toward Glennon piled up non-stop.
Case Closed?
TMZ even obtained audio and photos that seemed to corroborate the key details of Amber’s story, including the fact that she brandished a machete.
Getting Away With It
Despite all of that, Amber got off with a slap on the wrist after a reaching a plea deal with prosecutors.
Happy Amber
Portwood was sentenced to probation, random drug testing, a travel ban, and probation in connection with her July 5 arrest.
Scot-Free
The arrest will no doubt impact her upcoming custody battle against Glennon, but she won’t go to jail, and she’ll almost certainly still be able to see her son.

And Andrew says the reason for such light sentencing is that Amber is a woman, and her victim was a large man.

In a series of social media posts, Andrew has kept fans updated on his increasingly bizarre circumstances, and his latest remarks are some of his most shocking to date.
An Unexpected Outcome
“I was honestly considering making a statement that, ‘until further notice, I now identify as a woman,’ just to see if it would change the outcome… but that’s in poor taste, and I don’t want to take away from those who truly suffer from gender/identity crisis,” he wrote this week.
Putting It All Out There
Yes, Andrew is stating flat-out what many Teen Mom fans have been saying for months — Amber is getting off easy because she’s a woman and her victim is male.
Frightening Situation
He went on to claim that the court seemed to have little interest in helping him protect his 1-year-old son.
Slippery Slope
“Just crazy when a servant of justice tells you it will be a ‘slippery slope’ going to trial for the sheer fact that I’m a man… and a large man. …even they missed the point, it never was about me… It was about my baby boy in my arms,” Glennon continued.
Small Comfort
At Amber’s sentencing, Andrew was permitted to read a victim’s impact statement in her presence. And to say he didn’t hold back would be putting it mildly.

“To say that our family was broken in one night is an understatement,” Glennon began. “The reality of what brought us here transpired over a year and many months. It dates back to the first time you hit me in the face while I was driving you and our son on a highway in the pouring rain to make it to your daughter’s school on time to see her off.
A Pattern of Abuse
“It was after that day, August 7, 2018, that you grew more and more comfortable abusing me and neglecting our son and separating yourself from us as a family,” he added.
A Daily Affair
“Not a day would go by where your screaming and violence would not be felt by myself, by James, by our nanny or by anybody who would be in the house long enough,” Glennon continued.

“You have stripped us of too many precious first memories together,” he went on. “Days when all three of us should have been at our happiest in life.”
Holiday Trauma
“You have darkened every holiday I can remember with you,” Andrew added. “For this all to happen on the 4th of July fits that pattern to a ‘T’. And here we are, on Halloween, in court for something that never should have happened and was entirely avoidable.”

“That night was one of the scariest nights of my life, and my mind replays the worst moments to no end,” Glennon said.
Astute Observations
Andrew went on to accuse Amber of downplaying her abuse in the media and allowing her pain over losing custody of her daughter to poison her relationship with her son.

“I know you’ll be forever torn inside about not having custody of your daughter, but you have allowed that pain to destroy your relationship with your son, and you have pushed away a man who loved you so unconditionally and fully, who only wanted to help you regain your health and show you true happiness,” he said.
Independence Day
“I was a single father before becoming a single father. I saved my son’s life on the 4th of July. You destroyed our family on the 4th of July,” Andrew continued.
For the Kids
“This will how it will be celebrated. But I hope that James [and I will] celebrate it as the 4th of July, the first day toward you saving your own life. If not for yourself, but for your two beautiful children,” he concluded.
Unmoved
It’s difficult to imagine remaining unaffected by such a statement. But this is Amber we’re talking about. We’re guessing she was just happy to be walking out of court without shackles on her legs.
