Kate Middleton has donned nearly every fashion combination possible since she married Prince William in 2011.
We're talking sun dresses, gowns, fancy hats and almost anything else you can think of.
Except for shorts, that is.
It may seem crazy, but it's true: Kate Middleton had not been seen in public in a pair of shorts since 2008. Yes, 2008!!!!
This all changed during a recent charity outing, however, and we have the photographic evidence to prove it!
What event prompted this clothing decision by Middleton? And what does she look like in shorts?!?
Scroll down to find out!
Look at Those Gams!
Yes, Kate is taking part here in the King's Cup regatta on August 8, 2019 at Cowes on the Isle of Wight, England. But the real focus of this story is what the Duchess is wearing.
What is The King's Cup Regatta?
It's a charity race on the water. Kate attended the event with Prince William.
See, here the beloved couple stands and laughs, something we always love seeing them do together.
Back to the Shorts, Though
Here's another action shot of Middleton showing off her legs for the first time in 11 years.
What's the Full Outfit Here?
We're looking at a white polo and jacket by Gill Marine, a navy baseball cap, New Balance sneakers and navy shorts.
Come On. It's Really Been 11 Years?!?
Yes. The last time Kate was photographed in shorts was in September 2008 at a Day-Glo Midnight Roller Disco Party in London. The future royal wore neon yellow shorts and a sparkly green top for this festive event.
What About When She Works Out?
As you can see on this tabloid cover, she almost always opts for workout pants when exercising.
Is There a Royal Rule Against Shorts?
Nothing written, no. But good luck finding any photo of any grown Royal Family member in casual attire of this nature.
What is Kate's Usual Attire?
A hat such as this. A long flowing dress. Nothing that shows much skin at all.
What are Folks Saying About the Shorts?
Once they pick their jaws up off the floor? They are praising Kate for the look.
You Go, Girl!
"Where have you been hiding those?!?" asked one excited Instagram user, while another added simply: "Royal Hawtness."
Others, meanwhile, questions why the Royal Family must be so stuffy at all times. "Photos such as these make them look so much more relatable," one person noted. We must say: we agree.
Applause All Around
The general reaction was nearly all positive, which doesn't necessarily mean we'll be seeing Middleton in shorts again any time soon. But it does mean we'll be pretty darn excited the next time it happens.
