We have a major update on what transpired early on the morning of July 5 between Amber Portwood and Andrew Glennon.
As you very likely know by now, Portwood was arrested on that date for felony domestic assault -- and her victim was both her long-time boyfriend and the father of her one-year old son, James.
According to official Indiana state police records, Glennon texted 911 because Portwood had allegedly attacked him with a shoe while he was cradling their child.
What else to we know about what transpired?
Thanks to an exclusive, in-depth report by The Ashley, the answer is... A LOT.
And none of it paints Amber in a very positive light.
Scroll down to sadly see what we mean...
A Quick Rundown:
Amber was taken into custody around 6 a.m. on Friday, July 5, about three hours after Glennon texted 911 and claimed his girlfriend had assaulted him while he was holding James.
It Sounds Pretty Scary
"I need help. My life and my son's life is in danger," Andrew wrote to the authorities, prompting officers to be sent to the couple's home.
What Happened in the Attack?
The official report states that Portwood struck Andrew in the side of the neck with a shoe.
Amber Does Not Deny This
"Ms. Portwood stated that she did indeed strike (her boyfriend) with a shoe," Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Officer Ryan Salisbury wrote in his filing, adding: "But [she] stated that 'it was in the shoulder and I barely hit him.'"
Is This Just a He Said/She Said?
Not really. An officer at the home says he observed scratches and red marks on Andrew's neck, while an evidence technician took photographs of the injuries. These have not been made public.
Yes, Baby James Was Present
But not injured, thankfully. Also, Glennon also told officers that Portwood has hit him numerous times in the past and has threatened him countless times, too.
Portwood Has Actually Been Charged with THREE Felonies
This is the first update we have from The Ashley and it states that Portwood has been charged with: Domestic Battery, Domestic Battery Committed in the Presence of a Child Less than 16 Years Old and Criminal Recklessness Committed with a Deadly Weapon.
Where Does This New Information Come From?
The Affidavit for Probable Cause filed on Tuesday in Indiana. So it's official and factual.
How Did the Night Start Off?
On a semi-pleasant note, as Amber and Andrew had planned to take their son to see the Fourth of July fireworks at the Geist Bridge near their home -- but Andrew later told police that the roads were crowded and they were unable to get through traffic to get to the bridge.
Reads This Document:
“Mr. Glennon stated Ms. Portwood made him feel like he ‘dropped the ball’ on plans to see fireworks because the roads were blocked….Mr. Glennon stated Ms. Portwood then bashed his character."
Seems Like an Overreaction, No?
Who are we to say? On the surface, yes, but Amber has said she's bipolar and has trouble controlling her emotions.
What Happened Next?
Glennon explained to authorities that he proceeded to drop Amber off and drove around with little James for a while so Amber could “cool off.”
Glennon Then Made a Call
Andrew called the traffic help line during this jaunt and found out that the roads to see the fireworks would reopen in a half hour.
From Bad to A Whole Lot Worse
Glennon says he returned home and discovered that Amber had locked the door, according to the affidavit. The veteran Teen Mom eventually let him into the house and this is when things allegedly went from bad to seriously scary.
Things Turned Violent Quickly
“Mr. Glennon stated when he got inside the home, Ms. Portwood grabbed a shoe off the shoe rack and hit him with it," this report says. "Mr. Glennon stated he was holding [the baby] and he turned to the side to avoid [the baby] getting hit with the shoe."
Glennon Then Exited the Home
Again, this is all based on the affidavit cited previously.
An Attempt to Make Peace
While on the road after this shoe incident, Glennon said he kept calling Amber “to gauge where she was at mentally and if things had cooled down.” He alleges he drove around with the baby in the car for three hours, “got [Amber] a gift and brought her food.”
An Ugly Confrontation
When Glennon got back to his home, he told the police that “he went upstairs and Ms. Portwood was coming at him like she was going to hit him. Mr. Glennon stated Ms. Portwood told him to put [the baby] down. Mr. Glennon stated [the baby] was crying and upset and he was not going to put him down."
YIKES: A Suicide Threat
“Mr. Glennon became visibly upset and stated Ms. Portwood then threatened to kill herself,” the affidavit states.
She did more than merely threaten this act, too. “Mr. Glennon stated Ms. Portwood went to her drawer and took a handful of Klonopin and tossed it back like it was nothing," the document reads.
A Cry and a Call for Help
When Andrew told Amber he was calling for assistance, he says Amber then threw the pills back up. Thank goodness.
A Brief Aside:
Amber previously admitted that she contemplated hanging herself about a year ago, after James was born and she was suffering from postpartum depression. Andrew noticed something was off with her at the time and refused to leave her alone, saving her life.
Back to the Night of the Arrest:
“Mr. Glennon stated Ms. Portwood picked up a machete towards him and [the baby]," this startling report states. "Mr. Glennon stated he locked himself and [the baby] into the office."
Oh My God
Glennon went on to say Portwood hit the door with the machete and kicked the door and broke the handle. This is when Andrew called 911.
The Police Arrive
Once officers arrived at the house, the affidavit states that the cops had to call for backup because Amber “started yelling at the officer.”
What Did Amber Tell the Cops?
That she did hit Andrew with a shoe (barely), but denied chugging all those pills and denied using a machete (which Glennon claims she owns for self-protection because she cannot own a gun due to past arrests).
Her Fists/Hands Were Flying
In the account Andrew gave to Indiana Detective Linda White on Tuesday, Glennon stated that when he came into the house (the first time), “Amber began screaming at him and hit him several times and he wasn’t positive if it was an open hand or closed fist."
About That Shoe?
We're not talking about some soft sneaker here. Andrew told the cops that "Amber picked up up a sandal with about a 1-inch chunky heel and hit him in the shoulder, causing him pain and redness and a light abrasion.”
To Quote the Affidavit Again:
"She keeps a machete with a sheath on it. Amber picked up the machete, took the sheath off and looked at Andrew with a look so as she was moving around the bed, he took [the baby] into the office and closed the door and put his foot on it to hold it closed. Andrew said Amber kicked the door allowing the top to pop open from the kick but he kept his foot at the bottom… Amber then used the machete and began using it to put slashes on the door."
This is All So Crazy. Now What?
Glennon filed a petition for an emergency hearing regarding the paternity and custody of James on Tuesday, July 9.
Could He Actually Win Primary Custody of James?
Absolutely. Portwood went to jail for 17 months back in 2013 for also attacking her first baby daddy and then-boyfriend, Gary Shirley. She has a history of violence and drug use and has admitted in public, on multiple occasions, that she is mentally unstable.
