During a New Year’s Eve live Red Bull: New Year. No Limits event, Levi LaVallee and Robbie Maddison landed dual jumped over a 300-foot water gap. One man was riding a snowmobile and the other a motorcycle.
ESPN televised the crossing over San Diego Bay in which LaVallee broke his own world record for distance jumped on a snowmobile by launching 412 feet, smashing his own record of 361 feet that was set last year during a practice run leading up to the 2010 event.
Ironically the Minnesota daredevil was injured prior to the live 2010 broadcast and ended up in the hospital with a broken pelvis and punctured lung, and was unable to go for a televised record last year.
Maddison fell short of a world record last night. He landed 378.9 feet, short of the 391 unofficial record that he landed in practice. His stated goal for the live show was 400 feet.
LaValle said, “I was just excited to make it to the other side in one piece. I’m exploding with energy right now. When I saw the 410 marker go by, I knew it was going to be an amazing jump.”
As for Maddison, “I would have liked to have gone further, but I am just happy to have landed safely on the other side. There was a lot of pressure. I’m at a point where I need to make changes to my bike and I’m going to have to find a gnarlier gap to jump over.”
