Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani has been hospitalized in critical condition, with a spokesperson offering a sobering but hopeful update on Sunday.

The cause of his hospitalization has not been publicly disclosed.

In a statement, a spokesman for the 81-year-old Ted Goodman struck a defiant tone, emphasizing the controversial political figure’s resilience in the face of yet another challenge.

“Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he’s fighting with that same level of strength as we speak,” Goodman said (via People).

He added that Giuliani “remains in critical but stable condition.”

At this time, few additional details have been released about what led to the hospitalization or how long Giuliani may remain under medical care.

Still, the situation is clearly serious, and it comes after a string of health concerns in recent years.

Once dubbed “America’s Mayor” for his leadership in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, Giuliani has endured multiple personal and professional setbacks in recent years, including injuries sustained in a car accident that required hospitalization.

In recent years, Giuliani has become such a controversial figure that several judges stormed off in protest after he was revealed as a contestant on The Masked Singer.

Despite those challenges, his spokesperson insists the embattled former mayor is approaching this latest crisis the same way he has everything else: head-on.

And now, supporters are being asked to simply keep Giuliani in their thoughts.

For the moment, that’s all anyone outside his inner circle can do as the situation continues to unfold.

We will have further updates on this developing story as new information becomes available.
