‘Nurse Jackie’ star Merritt Wever made quick work of her acceptance speech after winning Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy during the Primetime Emmy Awards Sunday night at the Nokia Theater.

The clearly shell-shocked actress picked up the prestigious award for her role as Zoey, the jubilant, but inexperienced nursing student from a community college who is a perfect foil for Jackie’s sharp angles.

Wever managed to utter a few chopped sentences before bolting from the stage, “Thanks so much. Thank you so much. I gotta go. Bye.”

Show host Neil Patrick Harris mentioned the abbreviated speech after the commercial break, “Merritt Wever, best speech ever.”

Later in the evening when she had some time to collect her thoughts, Merritt managed to utter a few more words before her brain shut down for the second time, “I want to thank a lot of people – it’s happening again.”

She told one reporter who she should have thanked, “I wanted to thank everyone at Showtime. I wanted to thank most of all Edie Falco.”

Wever tried to explain her funk, “I don’t know yet. I’m scared, honestly. I’m scared. I’m scared because it was unexpected. I don’t know how to feel yet … I have therapy next week.”
