Michael Douglas won a Primetime Emmy Sunday night as Best Actor in a miniseries for his portrayal of Liberace in the HBO biopic ‘Behind the Candelabra.’

The A-list actor attended the event solo, while his estranged wife Catherine Zeta-Jones spent the weekend in China. It was her first public appearance since the couple revealed they have been “taking a marital break” for the past few months.

During his acceptance speech, the veteran actor acknowledged his family members, “I want to thank my wife, Catherine, for her support and my kids Dylan and Carys and my oldest son, Cameron.”

Douglas then embarked on a rather odd public disclosure regarding his 34-year-old son’s incarceration in a Pennsylvania prison for conspiracy to distribute drugs–receiving a sentence that will keep him locked up until early 2018.

“I’m hoping that I’ll be able, they’ll allow me to see him soon. My son has spent almost two years in solitary confinement, and right now I’m being told I cannot see him for two years. It’s been a year now, and I’m questioning the system. Obviously, at first I was disappointed with my son, but I’ve reached a point now where I’m very disappointed with the system.”

He added that U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is working on a new policy regarding non-violent drug addicts. He lamented, “The U.S. represents five percent of the world’s population and now we have 25 percent of the world’s prisoners.”

The speech wasn’t all doom and gloom. There were some pretty funny one-liners aimed at his co-star Matt Damon that were well received by the audience. Check out his entire acceptance speech below – move slider to 1:40:
