CBS News isn’t the only one spreading the holiday cheer with layoffs.
With major veterans being shown the door at MSNBC this week, while the lucky few work out their exit deals, some might think that come this weekend, it’ll be time to relax around 30 Rock.
Wrong.
We hear next week is going to be brutal as well, with more people informed they’re services are no longer needed.
Even more puzzling to those on the inside, however, is how parent GE is going to score some $40 million in savings, as has been reported. By just cutting a couple dozen staffers and paying their health insurance? Not likely.
Cut to – we just love “cut to” – significant changes in 2008, which will inevitably be a costly year in the newsgathering business, what with that little presidential election, political conventions, the primaries, Olympics, and on-going Iraq/Iran/Afghanistan conflicts. So the question begs: Where will the sacrifices be made? Perhaps NBC and MSNBC will be pooling more than studio space for primary and election night coverage.

Pull the plug on MSNBC. That ought to save about 20 bucks.
