90 Day Fiance star Nicole Nafziger gets a truly extraordinary amount of undeserved hate, even by reality TV standards.
Some people troll because they are naturally cruel and lack impulse control. Others do it because they feel powerless in their lives.
If they can ruin a stranger’s day online, or get a rise out of a stranger, it makes them feel stronger and more in control.
Ultimately, the reasons don’t really matter – it’s awful.
But the worst kind of trolling is the kind that is laced with bigotry or the kind that attacks children, obviously.
Nicole was on the receiving end of that recently.
Someone viciously attacked her and her daughter, May, and found a way to make their insults explicitly racist, somehow.

Nicole had time today!
Nicole is always gentle with haters when they come after her, answering them with a voice of, frankly, more compassion than they deserve. But when they say vicious, hateful, and (astonishingly) racist insults about her 6-year-old daughter … expect some clapback, folks.

She appeared on multiple seasons of 90 Day Fiance with her love, Azan Tefou (whose real name is Hassan M’Raouni).
Nicole just recently became an aunt
Her sister’s pregnancy was announced during her 5-month stay in Morocco this year, but Nicole made it home basically in time for the birth. Of course, she couldn’t be there for it regardless, given the COVID-19 pandemic.
But first and foremost, Nicole is a mom
Her daughter, May, is an adorable 6-year-old. Oh goodness, and she’s just a couple of months away from turning SEVEN! Can you believe it?
May is Nicole’s whole world
Nicole has endured a fair amount of mom-shaming for daring to be in a relationship at all instead of just resigning herself to single motherhood forever.
People can be so cruel
Folks, you don’t have to give up on having a love life to put your child first. You can do both.
The hate became even worse this year
When Nicole headed off to Morocco, “fans” excoriated her for leaving May behind. Of course, these same people would have been outraged if she’d “dragged May all the way to Morocco.”
It’s like she can’t win
What they want, of course, is for Nicole to either have a different love life or none at all.
But she was having a good time
Nicole and Azan went out to restaurants, enjoying tajine and Moroccan tea, and seeing the sights … for several days, at least.
Then, the pandemic changed everything
Maybe halfway into Nicole’s two-week trip, COVID-19 saw borders closed, flights halted, and lockdown orders issued.
May wasn’t there
Because Nicole and May were apart during the pandemic, something that Nicole could not possibly have foreseen when she planned her trip and a situation that no one involved wanted, some trolls had a conniption fit.
May was perfectly okay
The sweet little six-year-old was already staying with grandma Robbalee, and what grandparent wouldn’t cherish the chance to spend months with their grandchild?
What are grandmas for?
Grandparents have been helping out with childcare for tens of thousands of years, since before the first stones were laid in humanity’s first cities or the first pieces of pottery were fired.
People gave Nicole so much grief
They accused her of “abandoning” May. Some conspiracy theorists got bored of the constant bashing and decided to imagine that Nicole had made up the whole trip, which was even sillier.
The mom-shaming continued
Even after Nicole and May reunited in early August, people kept putting her on blast … as if she hadn’t remained in touch with her baby girl the whole time.
Their bond wasn’t broken
Sometimes, loving parents have to spend time away from their child — for work, for custody issues, or because of a massive life-changing global emergency situation the likes of which come once a century. That can be traumatic, but May was in a loving family environment, and Nicole was able to keep in touch through video chatting.
Enough is enough
Nicole is so delicate when she interacts with even the worst mom-shaming trolls. But this latest message was hateful, insulted her sweet little girl, and it was also appallingly racist.

“You and May are by far the ugliest people I’ve ever seen,” a vile troll wrote. “She [definitely] got her looks from you. Also love how you love your eyes, but they are nothing special and actually asian and ugly.”
Nicole’s reply was appropriately harsh
Nicole fired back: “What kind of person calls a child ugly? What the hell is wrong with people? So disgusting.”
She also called out the troll
Obviously, we’re seeing this because Nicole screenshotted the troll’s DM to issue her response. That person’s bizarre anti-Asian racism and their decision to insult a 6-year-old were vile, but let’s be clear that the insult against Nicole was vicious all by itself. There are sick, twisted people in this world.
