For several weeks now, we’ve been talking about journalist Tom Bower’s new book, Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors.
While the title promises an overview of the conflicts that have torn the royal family apart in recent years, it seems that Bower’s research was focused almost entirely on Meghan.
The book contains numerous outrageous claims about Meghan’s life before Harry, as well as allegations about her conduct during their marriage.
Bower reports that Harry’s friends warned him not to marry Meghan — and apparently, they weren’t alone in their misgivings.
According to an excerpt published today by Page Six, Lady Susan Hussey, who has served as a lady-in-waiting to the Queen Elizabeth for nearly 60 years, predicted that Harry and Meghan’s marriage will “end in tears.”
“While discussing the possibility that Meghan might become linked with the National Theatre after the wedding, Hussey became unexpectedly serious about the couple’s future,” Bower writes.
“‘That will all end in tears,’ she is alleged to have said. ‘Mark my words.’”
The wording there is a little confusing, but according to both Bower and Page Six, Lady Susan was referring to Harry and Meghan’s marriage ending in tears, not their partnership with the National Theatre.
That grim prediction is in keeping with the tone of the rest of the book, which is basically just a 500-page hit piece about Meghan.
Bower said in a recent interview with Piers Morgan that his goal in writing the book was to bring about Meghan’s downfall.
So we guess you have to hand it to the guy for being honest about his intentions.
Of course, anyone who bothered to skim through the dreck he somehow got published probably could’ve figured out the author’s goals on their own.
In addition to Bower’s dubious claims about the warning from Harry’s friends, the “journalist” also claims that the Queen expressed relief upon finding out that Meghan would not be able to attend the funeral of Prince Philip.
He also reports that Meghan was still living with her ex-boyfriend when she started dating Harry, but even Bower admits that that’s not as scandalous as it sounds.
Meghan and her ex were basically just roommates by that time, and she ended the living arrangement after her first date with Harry.
So Bower dug as deep as he could and found that there’s just not as much dirt in Meghan’s past as the British tabloid press would like to believe.
Many self-proclaimed journalists have embarked on similar excavations and come up just as empty-handed.
Sadly, Bower’s failure probably won’t prevent others from following in his footsteps.
And Meghan will likely be forced to endure these continued takedown attempts for as long as she’s in the public eye.
