You might be able to see Russia from your house, but we bet you never saw this one coming!

TMZ is reporting that former Alaska governor and national embarrassment Sarah Palin has filed for divorce from Todd Palin, her husband of 31 years.

In documents filed in Anchorage Superior Court on Friday, Sarah cites “incompatibility of temperament between the parties such that they find it impossible to live together as husband and wife” as the cause of the split.

In other words, the Palins are leaning on that old, vague standby and chalking their divorce up to irreconcilable differences.

It’s an odd excuse after more than three decades of marriage, but the Palins are about as private as the Kardashians, so it’s safe to assume the truth will come out eventually.

Sarah, of course, rose to national prominence after she was selected by John McCain to serve as his running mate in the 2008 presidential election.

(With all due respect the late senator’s service to our country, has anyone done more for the careers of gun-clutching, pseudo-hillbillies with hot-take-spewing pundit ambitions than John McCain?)

In 2009, Palin resigned as governor of Alaska after just three years in office, in order to focus on a career in media.

The move yielded mixed results for both Sarah and her family.

These days, the matriarch is seldom seen on television, and while at least one of her children enjoyed a brief career as a television personality, daughter Bristol Palin’s popularity proved to be rather short-lived.

In a last-ditch effort to revive her career, Bristol joined the cast of Teen Mom OG last year, but was bounced from the show after failing to make a splash with audiences in her first and only season.

Throughout the Palin family’s meteoric rise and precipitous fall, a series of arrests, altercations, and tabloid scandals made it apparent that the former first family of Alaska was not the ideal conservative clan that supporters briefly imagined them to be.

In 2014, a family brawl caught on tape revealed the profound level of dysfunction within the Palin family and marked the beginning of the end of Sarah’s brief reign as a media darling.

It’s unknown if the family’s well-documented domestic and financial woes played any role in Sarah’s decision to file for divorce from Todd.
