Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift have quite a history.
And very little of it is positive.
Remember the time Swift stuck her tongue out at Bieber after he kissed Selena Gomez?
That action was relatively harmless, however.
It certainly pales in comparison to the way Swift just went all scorched-Earth on Bieber's best friend, Scooter Braun, prompting her frequent rival to come right back at Taylor in harsh and personal fashion.
Confused? We can explain...
On Sunday, Swift went ABSOLUTELY OFF on Tumblr, laying into Scooter Braun because his company just purchased Taylor's old record label.
This means that Braun, who manages such superstars as Bieber and Ariana Grande, now owns all of Swift's music catalog. He is in control of where her albums can be streamed and heard, for instance.
Such a business move did not sit well with Swift at all.
"For years I asked, pleaded for a chance to own my work," she wrote yesterday, continuing in angry detail:
"I learned about Scooter Braun's purchase of my masters as it was announced to the world. All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I've received at his hands for years."
Wait, what? Come again, Taylor?
Swift is referring to Braun posting a picture of himself, Bieber and Kanye West from about three years ago, back when Swift was feuding hard with Kanye and Kim Kardashian.
She's saying that Braun helped Kimye spread the message that Taylor was -- in their eyes -- a lying, manipulative snake.
“This is Scooter Braun, bullying me on social media when I was at my lowest point," the artist wrote on Tumblr along with it. "He’s about to own all the music I’ve ever made."
Swift's message has picked up momentum across Hollywood.
Halsey, for example, has made it clear that she supports Swift.
"It turns my guts that no matter how much power or success a woman has in this life, you are still susceptible to someone coming along and making you feel powerless out of spite. It speaks volumes to how far we have to come in the music industry," she wrote about the situation.
Demi Lovato, meanwhile, has seemingly castigated Taylor for slamming Braun -- and for doing it in such a public manner.
"I’m grateful he came into my life when he did," she has written of the manager and then, in an apparent dig at Swift, added: "Please stop ‘dragging’ people or bullying them. There’s enough hate in this world as it is."
But the response that has drawn the most attention by far comes from Bieber.
"Hey Taylor. First of all i would like to apologize for posting that hurtful instagram post, at the time i thought it was funny but looking back it was distasteful and insensitive," he wrote on his own Instagram page, referencing the photo of himself, Braun and Kanye from years ago.
Bieber then goes on to defend Braun, saying he had nothing to do with the photo's release at all and adding:
"Scooter has had your back since the days you graciously let me open up for you!"
So far, so good and fair, right?
Yes. But then Bieber got very personal...
"As the years have passed we haven’t crossed paths and gotten to communicate our differences, hurts or frustrations," he continued.
(The pair famously have never really gotten along because Swift is close friends with Selena Gomez and she doesn't think he treated her very well back when they were a couple.)
"For you to take it to social media and get people to hate on scooter isn’t fair. What were you trying to accomplish by posting that blog?" he goes on to ask Swift, echoing Lovato's sentiments to some extent.
"Seems to me like it was to get sympathy... u also knew that in posting that your fans would go and bully scooter," Bieber wrote, hitting Swift where it hurts.
She has often been criticized for whining and playing the victim.
Justin is saying here that she's doing so on purpose in order to garner attention, inviting her fans to bully Braun in the process.
"Anyway, One thing i know is both scooter and i love you. I feel like the only way to resolve conflict is through communication.
"So banter back and fourth online i dont believe solves anything. I’m sure Scooter and i would love to talk to you and resolve any conflict, pain or or any feelings that need to be addressed.
"Neither scooter or i have anything negative to say about you we truly want the best for you.
"I usually don’t rebuttal things like this but when you try and deface someone i loves character thats crossing a line."
What do YOU think, readers?
Whose side are you on in this suddenly intense rivalry?
