We've known for quite some time that the relationship between Prince William and Prince Harry is not what it once was.
In fact, it's widely agreed that Harry is royally pissed at William for comments the latter made about Harry's wife, Meghan Markle.
But it wasn't until this past week that we realized just how dire the situation had become.
First came the royals' annual Easter celebration -- at which William and Harry kept their distance and did not exchange a single word.
That was followed by reports of Harry and Meghan moving to Africa, allegedly as a result of his falling out with his brother.
So is the situation really as bad as it seems?
Well, it's reached the point where those in the know are having trouble denying it.
“William is very protective of Harry,” royal expert Katie Nicholl recently told Fox News.
“He loves Harry. There has always been an unbreakable brotherly bond… I’m not sure the relationship is what it used to be. But relationships evolve over time and I think theirs was always going to change when Harry married.”
We appreciate the deftness with which Katie is playing the fence here -- acknowledging that William and Harry's relationship has "evolved" (read: fallen apart) without ever addressing the bad blood or Will's a-hole comments.
Asked specifically if the princes are at odds because of William's dislike for Meghan, Katie again played coy, saying, “There have been issues over a number of factors”
To her credit, Nicholl admitted that things began to deteriorate between the brothers right around the time that Harry met Meghan.
“I’m told from very reliable sources that the relationship has gone through challenging times since Harry started dating Meghan,” explained Nicholl.
“I’m told that privately William was concerned about how quickly the relationship had moved.”
It seems that "concerned" is just a nice way of saying William was a total concern-trolling douche about the whole thing, but we can't blame Nicholl for being diplomatic.
Hard to be a royal expert when you burn bridges with the family.
“William wanted to make sure that Harry was making the right decision,” continued Nicholl.
“And I think what was intended as well-meaning, brotherly concern and a bit of advice went down quite badly with Harry, who felt that William wasn’t being as supportive as he might’ve been.
"So there has certainly been tensions between the brothers.”
Again, we don't know exactly what William said to Harry, but apparently, it didn't sit well.
And sources say the situation deteriorated further after Harry learned of William's (alleged) affair with Rose Hanbury.
Unsolicited relationship advice is always a little hard to stomach.
It probably doesn't help to find out the source of the unwelcome counsel is secretly banging one of his wife's best friends.
These two might need a little time on separate continents.
