It's been five months since Demi Lovato suffered the overdose that nearly claimed her life.
Needless to say, it was a terrifying incident for Demi, as well as for her family, friends, and her legion of fans.
In the weeks that followed there was much talk of who was to blame for Demi's overdose, as well as a good deal of fretting that it would happen again.
Fortunately, while those around her were losing their heads, Demi remained focused on her recovery.
These days, Lovato is out of rehab, and those who know her best say she's devoted to staying sober and removing toxic influences from her life.
First Demi fired Dani Vitale, the friend and backup dancer who allegedly supplied her with the drugs that nearly killed her.
Shortly thereafter, she broke up with Henry Levy, another former addict whom Demi dated briefly before her family and friends convinced her that now is not the time for a new relationship.
And now, in what might be the most encouraging sign of progress thus far, Demi is returning to the things that gave her life meaning before her latest relapse.
Lovato posted this pic to her Instagram page on Tuesday, along with the following caption:
"Sweaty, messy jiu-jitsu hair," Demi wrote, adding the hashtags, "#BJJ #bluebelt #nevergiveup"
Brazilian jiu-jitsu is all the rage in Hollywood these days.
Fitness fanatics like Joe Rogan and Russell Brand are devotees, and Demi's fellow former addict Anthony Bourdain was an outspoken fan.
But Demi is no bandwagon-jumper.
She's been at it for years, and she says it was instrumental in helping her to get sober the first time around.
And fans are thrilled to see her jump back into such a healthy habit.
“MY BB SHE’S HEALTHY AND THRIVING UGH LOVE THAT FOR YOU,” commented one follower.
“You are such an inspiration please don’t ever stop," remarked another.
A third wrote simply, “We love you queen."
The sign that Demi is happy and healthy is particularly welcome following reports that the singer was deeply upset when she didn't receive an invitation to the wedding of Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra.
“Demi was so upset that she wasn’t invited to Nick’s wedding after everything that they have been through together,” a source told the Inquisitr.
“She has been his best friend forever.”
The same insider says the move was not meant as a slight:
“Nick did not want Demi’s fame-wagon to overshadow him and Priyanka’s special day," the source claims.
"Plus, he wasn’t certain that she was still going to be out of rehab at the time of his wedding.”
Hopefully, Nick was able to communicate to Demi the reasons behind his decision.
We wish her all the best in her continued recovery.
