It's been nearly two years since news of the Josh Duggar sex scandals, including his cheating on long-suffering wife Anna Duggar, came to light.
While remaining stoically by his side, Anna has continued to play a significant role in her in-laws' lives, both on and off camera.
The Duggars have gone to great lengths to keep Josh off of Counting On, and they would undoubtedly prefer that fans forget about his horrific crimes.
But they've also made a point of including Anna on their show, possibly as an indication that they're not entirely sweeping the whole thing under the rug.
Not that they have a choice, by continuing to be in the public eye at all. Josh's return would trigger outrage, but Anna's absence would speak volumes.
Now pregnant with her fifth chuld, Anna has made tearful confessions about the tremendous emotional toll of being married to an abusive sex addict.
She's also taken part in the more lighthearted activities that make up the bulk of the series, almost as a means of reassuring us that all is back to normal.
For obvious reasons, the Duggars prefer the latter scenes.
Without ever expressly acknowledging Josh's crimes, they get to give the impression that Anna has recovered from her emotional trauma.
Learning that her husband molested his sisters (four of them, according to reports) and used a website to search for cheating partners?
That can't be easy to accept.
In any case, Anna's latest appearance on the Duggars' web series centers around her helping to plan Jinger Duggar's bridal shower.
Yes, the Duggars are once again mining Jinger's wedding for fresh material, an odd choice as Jinger married Jeremy Vuolo back in November.
Not to mention, there have several major developments in the family since then, but for whatever reason, they keep going back to the Vuolo well.
Why the family keeps subjecting fans to endless re-hashings of the run-up to the wedding, we can't say, but that's the world we live in today.
As with every other Duggar event, Jinger's bridal shower was ridiculously well-attended, including by the maligned OG Duggar family in-law.
“They are expecting about 80 guests, and although that sounds like a lot, it is fairly common for Duggar gatherings,” the family explained in a recent blog post.
For some reason, Anna was tasked with making arrangements.
In the "webisode," she stays on message with a signature Duggar smile, explaining her joy at being a part of such an event:
“I think it’s just a neat opportunity to have a day for some of her closest friends to come together and just share in the excitement of her upcoming wedding."
The choice of subject matter is particularly bizarre considering, as we said, Anna is currently pregnant with her fifth child.
Perhaps the Duggars are trying to avoid associating Josh Duggar with children in the minds of their viewers?
It's hard to blame them for that, but still.
Walking such a tightrope might prove increasingly difficult, as production sources have indicated that Anna will play a larger role in the next season of her in-laws' reality show.
Will that involve more than just fluff?
This remains to be seen, but you can bet we will watch Counting On online to see more of the Duggars pretending all is well.
