Criminal Minds just got a little less sexy.
Following a mere one season on the CBS drama as BAU agent Kate Callahan, Jennifer Love Hewitt has chosen to exit the popular series due to her real-life status:
She's expecting baby number-two.
Hewitt made the announcement in January and is due to give birth right around the time Criminal Minds Season 11 goes into production.
On last night's Criminal Minds Season 10 Episode 23, her character (who is also pregnant) tendered her resignation following the near-death of her niece.
“There was an opportunity there to write towards the truth,” showrunner Erica Messer said of art imitating life.
“Jennifer wanted to be able to give this second baby everything she gave her first, and that’s taking time off to be a full-time mom.”
The door remains open for Hewitt to return as Callahan at some point, though Messer isn't planning on it.
As for the vacancy created by Jennifer Love Hewitt leaving Criminal Minds?
Messer says she may take the "revolving door" approach for a bit.
"Our core group that everyone’s known and loved for so many years cover all of our bases, so anything on top of it is like a bonus," she says.
"This might be a good opportunity to bring in a fun guest star for a while and maybe shake it up a little bit."
