Matthew McConaughey’s original audition for the role that made him famous has surfaced online.
And, simply put, it is so much better than just alright (alright, alright).
Back when he was a college student at the University of Texas, with just a few commercial shoots on his resume, the future Oscar winner decided to try out for Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused.
In the footage above, we see McConaughey going for the role of David Wooderson; a cool, laid back, sort of creepy young man with an eye on high school women and a nose for fun.
In one scene, he’s pretending to drive a car while asking for weed. In another, he’s just hanging out before uttering his most memorable line from the film.
Know what we love so much about this video?
As we keep getting older, it will stay the same amount of awesomeness. Seriously, stop whatever you are doing and check it out now.
(We’re pretty sure Wooderson would approve of the following photo gallery as well.)
