Considering the fact that Grey’s Anatomy Season 11 Episode 8 represented the fall finale of this ABC drama, we expected Shonda Rhimes and company to leave our jaws agape by the time the closing credits rolled.
Instead, they left our hearts completely broken.

There were two main takeaways from the final Grey’s Anatomy episode of 2014:
- Jackson and April’s baby will die from a rare bone condition.
- Derek will take the job with POTUS in D.C.
After fighting for weeks, the show’s main couples ended up at extreme odds again after Meredith sided with Maggie when it came to a patient care dispute.
It didn’t help when Derek tried to then pull rank by calling in Richard for another opinion.
Derek once again reminded his wife that he “gave up everything” and when he revealed that an emissary from the White House had actually re-offered the job to him, Meredith said he “should take it.” He angrily picked up the phone to do so on the spot.
Could this actually be it for the couple? Or might time apart help heal their wounds?
Elsewhere, Arizona asked Amelia for advice on Herman. And, get this, turns out there may be hope! Amelia believes she can remove Herman’s tumor.
As for Callie?
She felt responsible after one of her veterans pushed himself too hard and ended up in a coma. She told Owen that she wanted to step back from the program (and she told Arizona that she missed her, but “not enough,” her wife replied), but Owen wouldn’t allow it.
Finally, get the tissues out, readers… because Stephanie performed and ultrasound on April and learned she was having a boy. But then she noticed something amiss and took her concerns to Arizona. Who took them to Herman.
In the end, it was confirmed that the fetus has a condition that will cause it to die soon after being born.
Toward the end of the hour, Jackson overheard Stephanie talking to Herman about it and asked her what was going on.
On a brighter side, Bailey kept drinking kale shakes as part of her health kick.
But, man, what a depressing hour of television, huh? The series is now off the air until 2015, but you can always watch Grey’s Anatomy online in order to relive the most important moments.
