Mick Jagger says he is still “struggling to understand” why his girlfriend L’Wren Scott, a renowned fashion designer, ended her life in New York yesterday.

On his website, Jagger posted a black and white photo of the former model, simply titling it “L’Wren.” On the homepage, he wrote a brief statement:

I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way.

We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves.

She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me.

I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received.

I will never forget her,
Mick

The 49-year-old designer was found dead in her apartment of an apparent suicide, according to police. Her motivation for doing so is very much unclear.

Scott was a renowned stylist and fashion designer whose clothes have been worn by A-listers including Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie and Penelope Cruz.

In addition to her career in fashion, in which she earned a legion of famous fans, Scott had been romantically linked to Jagger for more than a decade.

Jagger and his band were on tour in Australia when they received news of L’Wren Scott’s death. His rep denied that a Jagger split may have played a role.

The band announced today that it has postponed its tour of Australia and New Zealand, which had been scheduled for Mar. 19 through April 5.

In a statement, the group said, “The Rolling Stones are deeply sorry and disappointed to announce the postponement of the rest of their 14 ON FIRE tour.”

The group said they wish to “thank all of their fans for their support at this difficult time and hope that they will fully understand the reason for this announcement.”
