It’s rather clear at this point: Bruno Mars was the proper choice to perform at halftime of this year’s Super Bowl.

With thousands of votes cast, over 75% of THG readers have given the singer’s halftime show an A.

But Jody Rosen, a New York magazine, initially took issue with Mars as the game’s selection, saying he isn’t a true star because he doesn’t have a "clothing line" or "fragrance."

In response, Mars appeared on Ellen this week and blasted this take as "by far the most disgusting thing I’ve heard."

Why?

"Not because it was taking a shot at me," Mars said. "But I was just thinking about aspiring young musicians."

Along those lines, Mars asked DeGeneres if he could give a speech to future artists. She agreed, she played the Rocky theme song… and off Bruno went.

"Listen, if music is what you want to do; if it is your love and your passion, it doesn’t take a fragrance, it’s not about the tabloids," Mars said.

"It’s about you putting in the work, practicing every day, and hopefully one day you write the song the whole world wants to get down to. And one day you’re going to be sitting next to Ellen DeGeneres talking about how you broke records and rocked the Super Bowl!"

We love it!
