Simon Cowell has made it official:
Demi Lovato will not return to The X Factor in 2014.
Talk of the singer departing this reality competition surfaced on Tuesday, as insiders told People Lovato wanted to focus entirely on her music career next year - and now the show's producer has confirmed the news.
"I always knew she wasn't coming back because she's touring," Cowell told reporters yesterday.
And it's true:
Lovato will begin her "Neon Lights" tour in February and be joined by a trio of opening acts that have ties to the U.S. and/or British versions of The X Factor: Cher Lloyd, Fifth Harmony and Little Mix.
"I started the show being a singer and a musician, and so I'm going to go back to that," Lovato said of her departure. "It's been really great, but I'm so excited for 2014. I'm going to dedicate it completely and entirely to music - touring and making a new album. Possibly releasing one."
Demi joined the series at the start of its second season in 2012. Previous X Factor panelists include Paula Abdul, Cheryl Cole, L.A. Reid, Nicole Scherzinger and Britney Spears.
Fox is yet to renew The X Factor for Season 4, but Cowell has said the program will be back.
It concludes Season 3 tonight. Who do you think should win it?
