Amazon Prime really could put Santa out of business with its drone delivery service, aptly being called Amazon Prime Air. The service, which is currently in research and development, could have packages on peoples’ doorsteps in under half an hour.
That’s faster than many can get a pizza delivered. Score one for Amazon! And just imagine being able to get those amazing Cyber Monday Deals delivered same day!
It might seem like something out of Almost Human, but the company’s founder Jeff Bezos believes that drones are the wave of Amazon’s future.
Bezos revealed this new use of drone technology, which is most commonly used in war, on 60 Minutes. While the FAA’s current regulations restrict the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, its expected that rules should change by 2015.
"We’ll be ready at that time," Bezos said.
The company, already know for its free, two-day delivery for Amazon Prime members has revolutionized the way people shop. It has recently expanded its grocery offerings and begun to experiment with same-day and Sunday deliveries.
Bezos sees the drones as a natural extension of the company’s current offerings and as a greener alternative to current delivery methods which clog streets and fill the air with exhaust. The drones are all electric.
"One day, Prime Air vehicles will be as normal as seeing mail trucks on the road today."
