Big brother Derek addressed the issue after Monday’s Dancing with the Stars results show, saying Julianne is "mortified" over the backlash she’s received.

If you missed seeing Julianne Hough in blackface at a Halloween party in Hollywood Friday … see above. The image went viral and people were unhappy.

The 25-year-old actress was portraying Crazy Eyes, a character played by actress Uzo Aduba, from the hit Netflix series Orange is the New Black.

Hough was attending the Casamigos Tequila Halloween party and was among a sizable group of friends dressed in tandem as the cast of the show.

"She’s my little baby sister and she’s the sweetest thing ever," said Derek, who was also present. "She is just beyond beside herself. She’s so apologetic."

"She’s so so sorry. Obviously, it wasn’t her brightest moment in her life, but hopefully we can move on," the male Hough added in defense of his sibling.

After the negative reactions she received from media and fans, Julianne Hough took to Twitter Saturday to publicly apologize for her lapse in judgment.

"I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New Black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created,” the dancer, singer and actress wrote.

“It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize."

That mea culpa will likely satisfy most Hough fans, but some stars such as Wendy Williams and Martha Plimpton have called her out pointedly this week.
