Robert Downey, Jr. met for dinner with Marvel execs on Monday.
Why? Well, two reasons: To celebrate the incredible success of Iron Man 3, which had the second-biggest opening weekend ever, and to discuss Downey’s future with the franchise.
You see, the actor’s contract is up, and he’s stated he’s interested in moving on to more indie pastures.
The negotiations focused on Tony Stark’s involvement with The Avengers 2 and 3, with everyone expecting Downey to at least play the character in the Marvel Phase 2 capper.
As of now, nothing is set in stone, except of course that Marvel is definitely planning an Avengers 3.
Downey, of course, has brought a ton of success to the studio, as movies featuring the actor have done much better than those without.
The Avengers 2 is currently planned for a May 1, 2015 release.
