What began with a bang is ending with a low-energy half-clap.
Looks like Britney Spears’ stint on The X Factor is ending almost as quickly as it started, with reports indicating she will not be asked back for Season 3.
“Britney will get the boot,” an insider says of Spears, who joined along with Demi Lovato this fall. “Producers wanted her for the long haul, but it isn’t working.”
One reason? Spears’ massive $15 million contract, which one source sums up as such: “They paid all that for her to say ‘amazing’ and offer half-claps.”
Adds another source of co-creator Simon Cowell, who is leading the charge to axe Spears: “He wanted crazy Britney, but he got boring Britney.”
In just two seasons, the series has lost or let go of Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger, Cheryl Cole and L.A. Reid, who signaled this month that he’s out.
Spears is likely next on the chopping block.
Britney will be fine, being one of the top-earning entertainers in the world, but what’s more troubling is reported strife between Spears and Jason Trawick.
Sources say Britney and her fiance have been butting heads lately, and that a split with Jason Trawick appears imminent – not a matter of if, but when.
“They are pulling away from each other,” a pal explained to celebrity news magazine Us Weekly. “Unless things change, they will split for good.”
