Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom’s whirlwind, fairy tale romance was once that magical stuff of TV lore, a beacon of hope in a crazy world.
Then it unraveled slowly, but dramatically over the ensuing years.
Now, with Lamar fighting for his life after a possible overdose at a Nevada brothel, Khloe is by his side and he is in everyone’s thoughts.
Having hit rock bottom and been at the brink of death, might Lamar turn this negative into a positive, and change his life for the better?
Let’s take a look at their long, turbulent road to this point …
A Whirlwind Romance
Khloe and Lamar met in August 2009 at a party for the former Ron Artest (now Metta World Peace) and were immediately inseparable.
Just Married!
They tied the knot just four weeks after they met, a move that seemed suspect at the time, but they were so in love, nothing else mattered and they quieted any doubts for a matter of years.
LO + KO 4-EVER
Shortly after, Khloe Kardashian became Khloe Kardashian Odom, and the couple tattooed the other’s initials on their hands: LO & KO.
Playing House
Khlomar quickly moved into a multi-million dollar house together, along with her brother Rob Kardashian, who became as tight with Lamar as he is with Khloe. All was right with the world.
Unbreakable
After two years of marriage, Khloe and Lamar launched their first joint product … the “Unbreakable” line. If only they lived up to that name.
Khloe & Lamar: The Show!
For a time, they even had their spinoff of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, creatively titled Khloe & Lamar. She’s since gone back to filming spinoffs in which she and Kourtney TAKE Miami, New York, the Hamptons and so on and so on.
Ride or Die
Khloe and Lamar swore they would be together until the end. It didn’t work out that way, but this illustrates just how deep their connection once was, and perhaps always will be.
Trouble Trying to Conceive
The couple made several attempts to conceive a child, to no avail. Meanwhile, Kourtney gets pregnant every time she and Scott bang every 2-3 years. Gotta be frustrating. In 2012, Khloe admitted that she had even undergone hormone shots, but still couldn’t get pregnant.
Dallas Sucks
At least Khloe thought so. Odom was traded to the Dallas Mavericks from L.A. in 2012, and this was widely seen as the time things started to fall apart for him personally and professionally.
Inconsistency
Lamar never quite found the consistency and the stability he had with the Lakers, and began to bounce around the NBA. Soon after, rumors surfaced that there were other women bouncing up and down on top of him off the court – if you know what we mean.
Lamar Peaces Out
It’s not clear what the catalyst was, but sometime in the spring or summer fo 2013, either Khloe kicked Lamar out of their shared home, or he up and left. Either way, the downward sprial was in FULL swing from then on out.
The Polina Polonsky Situation
In mid-2013, a Los Angeles attorney named Polina Polonsky went on record stating that not only had she developed a relationship with Odom, but was living with him, while he was likely on drugs and “acting like a toddler,” and even confronted Khloe Kardashian, who came at her “like a caged animal.” Seriously, this was insane.
The Crack Video
It was never conclusively proven that Lamar was literally cracked out of his mind in this video, but it was said to be the last straw, as he and friend Jamie Sangouthai rapped about him cheating on Khloe and runnin’ with his crew. Clearly, they were wasted on something, and Jamie’s death two years later from an overdose makes this all the more chilling.
It’s Over
In December of 2013, Khloe filed for divorce. It would take years (plural) for him to formally acknowledge this, however.
Reconciliation Rumors
Throughout 2014 and 2015, Khloe continued to hint that the door was open to reconciling with Lamar, even if she didn’t say so overtly or (obviously) do so. “Lamar is genuinely one of the best people I’ve ever met, and everyone says that when they meet him. I think Lamar’s going to always be that person [for me] but that’s what made it so special. Even if I had it for five years or whatever, it was the best ever and I’m grateful I did. Some people don’t get that ever and I had that magic for a long time,” she said, adding, “I miss what we had. things we got to do together are just memories. I like looking back and holding on to that stuff. I definitely miss it, and there’s times I’ll get so sentimental and so sad, but this had to happen for some reason. I’ll figure it out over time.”
Cursed!
This one is kind of an aside, but Kaley Cuoco – The Big Bang Theory star who bought Khloe and Lamar’s house after they split up – tried to have it “spiritually cleansed” of their bad mojo. Didn’t work. She and Ryan Sweeting just broke it off after 21 months of marriage.
Overdoses Galore
The aforementioned, rapping Jamie Sangouthai (pictured) and Bobby Heyward, two of Lamar’s close friends, BOTH DIED of overdoses in a span of just a few months this year. Somehow, this did not scare Lamar straight, and instead, he spiraled even MORE out of control.
Okay, It’s REALLY Over
Following those two deaths but otherwise after a long period of quiet speculation on the Khlomar front, the two finalized their divorce out of nowhere. That put an end to this saga once and for all, right? Wrong …
Lamar Got Soul (Cycle)
Bizarrely, not long after the divorce news broke, in the summer of 2015, Lamar was seen confronting Khloe outside her Soul Cycle class in L.A. Bright and early in the morning in the parking lot, he appeared to catch her off guard, and they had a brief, heated exchange before she beat a retreat.
Lamar Goes Nuts on TMZ
Lamar lambasts TMZ’s coverage of his life, insisting that he did not ambush Khloe, but also admitting that his life has gone seriously downhill in recent years.
Fighting For His Life
In October 2015, the down and out basketball player was found unconscious at a brothel in Nevada and airlifted to a hospital where he is fighting for his life, with Khloe by his side.
‘Til the Motherf–king End
Tragically, this statement by Lamar may end up being true, though in a way he never intended and no one ever wanted to see.
Lamar is Awake! Divorce Called Off!
In a startling and overwhelmingly awesome turn of events, Lamar’s prediction in the previous slide looks to be coming true … because he has regained consciousness, and he and Khloe have nullified their divorce papers!
