Brad Pitt has been making the media rounds to promote his new film Fury, and for the most part, his appearances have consisted of the usual choreographed, semi-scripted fluff.

Pitt breakdanced with Jimmy Fallon, talked about his son being a World War II buff, and rocked a series of hobo-chic outfits that look like something Johnny Depp would rock if he lived through the Great Depression.

It was all going according to plan until Pitt slipped up and threw some subtle, possibly unintentional shade at his BFF George Clooney during an interview with the Associated Press.

In case you somehow haven’t heard Clooney married Amal Alamuddin in Venice last month. Earlier in the year, Pitt married Angelina Jolie, thus making 2014 the year of Hollywood’s most eligible bachelors going off the market. (Your move, Depp!)

While discussing this (probably) coincidental race to the altar, Pitt made a curious statement to the interviewer:

“We did it for the right reasons,” Pitt responded when asked if he and Clooney had made a pact to get married the same year.

Brad clearly intended to laugh off the notion that he and George intentionally got hitched within a few months of one another, but was he also slipping in some low-key trash talk?

Was it a kind of “don’t compare my ten-year relationship to this dude pulling a lawyer off Match.com so he can run for office” type of deal?

Of course, Pitt could have been talking about himself and Clooney when he said, “We did it for the right reasons,” but this isn’t the first rumor of a rift in Hollywood’s favorite bromance.

The two actors did not attend one another’s weddings and Clooney confessed that he didn’t even know about Brad’s until he saw in the news.

So yes, it’s sad to say, but you probably shouldn’t hold you breath for Ocean’s 23
