Kaila Mendoza, a 20-year old Florida resident, drove the wrong way down the Sawgrass Expressway last Sunday morning around 1:45 a.m., crashing her Hyundai Sonata into a Toyota Camry and killing two people in the process.
The tragic story has received an unusual amount of press in the days since because Mendoza Tweeted the following about three hours prior to the fatal accident:
"2 drunk 2 care."
According to Florida Highway Patrol, Marisa Catronio, the Toyota's driver, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her passenger, Kaitlyn Ferrante, was taken to Broward Health North, where she later died, while was transported to the same facility and remains there in serious condition.
"The vehicle came upon a Toyota Camry, struck the Toyota Camry head-on, and the passenger of the Toyota Camry was pronounced dead at the scene," Sgt. Mark Wysocky told NBC 6.
Mendoza, meanwhile, refers to herself on Twitter as a "pot princess" and has posted a number of photos on that social media network of marijuana and other substances.
According to court records, Mendoza has yet to be charged with a crime.
