Earl Weaver, the legendary ex-manager of the Baltimore Orioles, passed away early this morning on a cruise in the Caribbean. He was 82 years old.

A Hall of Famer, Weaver won 1,480 games and was well-known for both his temper and his penchant for the three-run homer.

He collapsed with his wife, Maryanne, by his side and never regained consciousness, according to The New York Daily News.

Said Orioles owner Peter Angelos in a statement: "Weaver stands alone as the greatest manager in the history of the Orioles organization and one of the greatest in the history of baseball."

Weaver took the team to four World Series and won the 1970 title.

"This is a sad day for everyone who knew him and for all Orioles fans," Angeles said. "Earl made his passion for the Orioles known both on and off the field. On behalf of the Orioles, I extend my condolences to his wife, Marianna, and to his family."
