Buckwild: MTV Show to Premiere in January, Already Slammed By West Virginia Senator
by Free Britney at .Jersey Shore, meet Buckwild, your replacement on MTV.
The reality show about nine young adult friends in West Virginia doesn't premiere until January 3, but it has already received harsh criticism from public officials.
U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, a Democrat, wants the network to cancel the forthcoming program, calling its portrayal of young people in his home state "just wrong." He wrote MTV:
"This show plays to ugly, inaccurate stereotypes about the people of West Virginia."
"Instead of showcasing the beauty of our people and state, you preyed on young people, coaxing them into displaying shameful behavior, and now you are profiting from it."
Manchin's criticism sounds vaguely familiar.
Jersey Shore, which Buckwild will replace in the 10 p.m. Thursday time slot, has been criticized since its 2009 debut for its stars' drunken and promiscuous behavior.
Though it's drawing fire from West Virginia's senator and former governor, Buckwild has yet to even debut. His criticism is based upon trailers and press releases.
The West Virginia stars apparently live by the motto, "Whatever happens, happens."
What seems to be happening is a lot of riding down hills inside giant tires, driving trucks through mud, tearing up trails on ATVs, drinking, body licking, boning and fighting.
It's like Seaside Heights, only backcountry style.
Of course, like their Shore counterparts, there's a heartfelt side to all of these hedonistic youths, making for another surefire hit for the network (it hopes).
What's your take on Buckwild?

Oh no! Just when I thought I could breathe a sigh of relief that the Jersey Shore was history, they go and replace it quickly with this show! I was just talking about this with a few DISH coworkers over lunch, and we all think it’s crazy how people choose to get entertained. I agree with the Senator that MTV should stop exploiting different lifestyles and demographics! I for one definitely do not plan on giving this show the time of day at all. Unfortunately, I already know that my roommates are going to have a field day with Buckwild. Not one episode of Jersey Shore went unwatched in our household, so I’m sure it’ll be just the same with this show. I’m just glad that my DISH Hopper DVR’s three independent tuners let me watch one of my shows while they get their reality TV fix, so neither of us have to argue over control of the remote. Otherwise, I’d go mad!
This is retarded. Enough said.
Omg I cant wait for this show. What is wrong with everyone criticizing shows on mtv for stereotyping? Really because last time I checked everything is stereotyped. I don't see people bashing the news for all the stereotypes they place on groups. Why does everyone take everything so personal? Its just entertainment get over yourselves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
