Poor Big Tex.

The affable, famous 52-foot State Fair of Texas mascot caught on fire at Fair Park in Dallas this morning. Take a look at the big fella before and after ...

Wearing size 70 boots and a 75-gallon hat, Big Tex had been an institution since 1952. Alas, he will not make it to see 61. But Tex will rise again!

The Mayor of Dallas has apparently promised to resurrect the mascot for 2013: "We'll rebuild him and make him better than ever for the 21st Century."

How sad. Hopefully he'll be reconstructed and continue on being the TX State Fair Icon.

Associated Pest: Dallas Today Big Tex, the icon of the State Fair of Texas, burned to the metal frame. Eye witnesses said shortly before the fire, two men in sweatshirts with the letters "OU" were seen leaving the base of the statue. One witnesses said that as the fire engulfed Big Tex that "he screamed with a high pitched voice like a frightened girl". Authorities are still investigating the source of the fire. Tonight, Texans are planning a candlelight vigil to honor the big man with the high pitched, girly voice.

Not all Texans are rednecks. Or gunhuggers. We didn't lose a "Stonehenge," but a simple local icon and a piece of local history. Ignorant jackass. Learn the facts before opening your piehole.

today an icon was lost. what if the statue of liberty fell over. or the washington monument. you would show some respect. and just because some people in texas or even the south support the right to bear arms strongly does not mean you should make a steriotype that everyone is a "redneck gunhugger" why dont you go read a book or somethin an stop makin an ass of yourself on the internet.
