PETA Rips Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen Over $17K Fur Backpacks

PETA is ripping fashion designer duo Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen for using animal pelts to create their latest backpack, which retails for around $17,000.

That's not a typo.

“What the Olsens lack in creativity, they try to make up for with shock value,” the animal rights group said in a statement regarding the pricey accessory.

PETA Hates Olsen Twins

PETA protesters (seen here in 2008) have gone after the Olsen Twins for years.

The backpack is a patchwork design made of various animal furs, a fact that has PETA livid with the twosome to the point of bitter name-calling.

"If it looks like a troll and acts like a troll, it's probably a Trollsen Twin - or somebody wearing one of their new totes," the group continues.

PETA calls on consumers not to purchase the products "which are made from the fur and skins of innocent animals" or anything by the Olsens.

Ashley Olsen and Mary Kate Olsen, who jointly run The Row, captured the Womenswear Designer of the Year honors at the CFDA Fashion Awards in June.

They should probably be on the lookout for paint can assaults.

    I think that although calling them names is stupid, that people should support PETA. Loads of animals died just for one bag. Why would you want to spend that much money on a backpack- you could use it for much more worthwhile things. Also, I heard that the backpack is absolutely horrible anyway.

    PETA puts animal rights, before humans. To find cures for human ailments, animals have to be used, for research. PETA, get over it. Animals are used, so humans can eat. Animal fur is used, to keep humans warm. Horses are used for many reasons, including, horse racing, PETA, get over it. I ran over a possum, FU, PETA.

    Peta in general kinda sucks but I do have to say the bags are hideous and they are horribly over priced!!!

    I love the fact that PETA is so offended, even though they kill thousands of animals a year at the shelters they run and openly support domestic terrorist organizations such as ALF, who have taken credit for releasing thousands of mink from their farms so they can run around in the woods and freeze or starve to death. Way to go PETA.
