Cissy Houston, Mariah Carey Lead Whitney Tribute at BET Awards

by at . Comments

Cissy Houston and Mariah Carey were at the forefront of an emotional tribute to Whitney Houston at last night's BET Awards.

The latter kicked off the 19-minute event, recalling stories about Whitney - who tragically overdosed and died in February - and told the audience: "I miss my friend. I miss hearing her voice and laughter."

Monica and Brandy also took to the stage, singing multiple Whitney hits, while former Waiting to Exhale co-stars Angela Bassett, Lela Rochon and Loretta Devine honored their late friend.

But it was Cissy who brought tears to the eyes of all in attendance. She sang a version of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and A-listers such as Beyonce and Soulja Boy were caught on camera crying.

Watch the entire tribute for yourself:

Cissy does have an incredible voice as does Gary..Beautiful tribute..As far as her addiction goes so what..Her addiction does not simplify everything she was. everything she did..Or makes her passing any less painful..Unless you walked a mile in her shoes..Who are people to judge..We as humans sometimes fall victims to the weaknesses of the world..some we overcome and some that overcome us..and in spite of Whitney's weaknesses she was a Voice and talent like no other....

For those of you who are leaving negative comments and say you are sick of hearing abouther, here is an idea.....DO NOT CLICK ON ANY SITE THAT HAS WHITNEY INFO>!!!!Shame on you all! This woman was a talentunmatched by anyother who even in adversity still tired to give it her all. She is now singing on high in heavenand hopefully will ring in your ears for the rest of your sad life!Even though the drug abuse robbed her of her voice as we knew it, she came back with a voice that was as beautiful just a little different then before. Still unmatched by any other!!Whit...I love you and feel so blessed to know that you are an angel watching over us all!!

What a beautiful tribute to one of the greatest talents this world has ever seen! Her nick name, "The Voice" says it all. Cissy and Gary sounded incredible. I enjoyed Monica and Brandy too. I did not know Whitney personally, but I was blessed with an opportunity to see her live in concert, and I will forever cherish that experience. Her memory and music will live on! Please continue to pray for her family. God bless!

Drug addicts die. It's not sad, it's inevitable. I'm so sick of hearing about her. She had all this money and fame and yet instead of being a role model for her fans she chose to melt crack cocaine in a spoon. Good riddance.
