Karen Klein Receives Apology From School Bus Bullies

by at .

Karen Klein, the school bus monitor who was verbally abused by a group of Upstate New York middle school students, has received an apology from two of them.

The statements of apology were written to Karen, but have also been released by police, likely in hopes of quieting threats of retribution against the teenagers.

One letter, by Josh (last name withheld), says: "I am so sorry for the way I treated you."

"When I saw the video I was disgusted and could not believe I did that. I am so sorry for being so mean and I will never treat anyone this way again."

Fellow bully Wesley (last name also withheld), meanwhile, said, "I feel really bad about what I did. I wish I had never done those things."

"If that had happened to someone in my family, like my mother or my grandmother, I would be really mad at the people who did that."

Karen Klein, 68, was driven to tears by their 10-minute torrent of words (below), but said she feels bad for the kids who bullied her as well as their parents.

She does not intend to pursue further action, saying the kids are being punished enough. According to CBS News, all have received death threats.

Sympathetic viewers of the viral video set out to raise $5,000 for Klein to go on a dream vacation ... and ended up receiving $140,000 in donations.

Klein's reaction to the overwhelming support? As she told NBC News, "I get chills."

UPDATE: Klein has now received $440,000 in donations. Truly amazing.

As an executive, I encourage the employers of the parents who's children were involved in the Karen Klein incident to thoroughly review these people's positions and workload. A possible demotion may be required as they are clearly not spending enough time raising their children and maybe spending too much time at work.

    whoa.

Continued. I feel it is silly to consider this a one-time thing instead of looking at it as the broad and multi-layered issue that it is. This woman was obviously bullied by this group of children. Why would someone sit there and film it and not do anything about it when they knew they would get caught? Why did the bus driver not pull over and kick every single child doing that off the bus? Why is this still such a serious issue among children and youth today? Giving this woman money doesn't stop the problem. It won't stop the issue of bullying, even if it does in this case. Other situations of bullying are very serious and ongoing and need our attention and resources, too.
