James Durbin: Shocked by American Idol Elimination

James Durbin has to be honest: he didn't see his elimination coming on Thursday night.

The aspiring rocker tells MTV he "definitely" was surprised by the development, and has spent the time since remember why he originally auditioned.

"It's for my family and to try and give a voice to a genre of music that seems like it's slowly fading away," Durbin says. "I really accomplished a lot on the show, and I'm grateful for the opportunity."

We all saw James fight back tears after learning of his fate, but he's now accepted it. And is excited about all the future has in store.

"I haven't failed at all," he said. "This is just the beginning.

    I think Idol needs to limit the number of votes on number can send or we just end up with teeney boppers on the show and running the show. Not that they don't have talent they do but it seems like the real stars always go home early and leave us with a boring finale! Hope the X factor has a better handle on the voting. James was what made the show worth watching!!

    For the first time in years I did not watch American Idol. The show is not the same without James. The other contestants are extremely good, however the difference is that I would buy a ticket to see James. It is a shame that the person that should have won didn't. I hope to see more of James in the future. I wish there was a way to avoid losing the best talent too early in these shows.

    The show is not the same without James! Last night was boring. Tonight is more of the same. It's said that the artist that were willing to stand up to the handlers are gone. I am so sad that James was voted off. Yes country western has a huge voting block, tween's are going crazy for Scotty, Unfortunately, people think Haley has a tude and Lauren does have a Carrie Underwood feel, while all are ok, the show that I'd like to see, the concert that I want to pay money for is the one where James is the star! James, go and kick some butt! I hope that you are now free to do what you want, Its time to show your creativity. It will be exciting to see your further growth! Go James! Looking forward to your first CD!

    I can't believe this happened again. I said I was going to stop watching Idol when Daughtry was sent home, and now James!! What the heck. I think Idol needs to take a look at the rules and make some serious changes. The best ones ever are going home. I don't get it! Jame's..America loves you.

    James was clearly the best. To me with the health problems he has should give anyone the courage to believe in yourself despite you're problems.
