You might know him as the cranky judge on American Idol, but Simon Cowell has a soft and charitable side.
And it was on full display this week.
The music producer has gathered a slew of artists for a London-based charity single, a cover of R.E.M.'s "Everybody Hurts." The version hit British radio this morning and is worth a listen:
The single features Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus, Rod Stewart, Jon Bon Jovi, Michael Bublé, Susan Boyle, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, Cheryl Cole, Leona Lewis, Mika and James Blunt, among others.
It will be available for download this Sunday, with all proceeds benefitting the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.
Yesterday in Hollywood, meanwhile, over 80 singers united to record a remake of "We Are the World."
Isn't it refreshing to see so many celebrities get together for a reason that doesn't include a police blotter or publicity for a movie?

But check this out Joey---I can't speak for everyone, just myself. And I happen to appreciate what You do just as much as I do what the celeb's have. The only reason I haven't said so,is because I didn't know about you--till now...Now that I do---Thank You,on behalf of all the places you make your contributions--whatever they are...If more did so---the whole world would be better--Ya' feel me? And I'm speakin' from the experience of someone who's been a pretty fucked-up human being most of his life...It's only been in the last 3 years that I wised-up and turned around...It took a lot...But now that I'm on this train-of-thought,I attack it with all the zeal I used to put into doing wrong...In actuality--I've hurt far more people than I've helped. Now,I'm trying to salvage anything that's left in me,and see if I can't break the other record, only THIS time---in helping. So when I see those who are goin' at it off-the-rip---I can't help but smile and come their defense---whoever it might be. And don't get me started if it's a youth--they need more support and power to protect them than anyone...Yet,I carried that code with me,even when I was on the other side...So whether you publicize it or not---keep up your end of it. I'm going to. And I'm still not gonna bash on the one's who do what they do--whatever it is. Original--or,Not. If it works--gas-up on-it. Whatever helps...Later;Hollywood...

I'm not bashing Miley this is a general rant. Of course it is great that these so called, "celebrities" are donating their time (how generous) but really, if they donated half of their income this year, imagine how quick Haiti would get on their feet.........$1 million to these people is like $1 to me and yet even though I donate monthly to three charities I don't feel the need to publicise it.....
