In the wake of Luke Perry's tragic death, a 911 call placed on the actor's behalf has been made public.
It's painful to hear, but also insightful and relevant.
The former Beverly Hills, 90210 star and Riverdale cast member died on March 4, five days after he fell unconscious due to a massive, unexpected stroke.
In the audio featured here, we get a chance to listen for the first time as an unidentified woman, who discovered Perry's body after the stroke, tries to remain calm while speaking to an operator.
"Is he injured? Did he hurt himself? Did he fall? Is he able to speak with you? Is he breathing normally?" the 911 dispatcher asks.
After telling this woman to leave Perry alone, the operator adds:
"Have him stay where he's at and stay where he's at until they arrive, they're on their way. Should he get any worse before they arrive, call us back for further instructions."
According to ABC News, it took 9 minutes and 46 seconds to transport Perry from his home in Sherman Oaks, California, to a local hospital.
At one point in this call, the woman tells authorities to "hurry up and get here" before it's too late.
Alas, as we know all too well by now, it was too late -- though no fault of the caller herself, of course.
Multiple outlets have reported that Perry never woke up from his coma, but at least he was surrounded by loved ones when he passed away.
In the week since this awful event, an endless array of co-stars and friends have shared tributes online to Luke Perry.
He sincerely seemed like a warm, compassionate, grounded and kind person.
Here is what Jason Priestley wrote:
It’s taken me a couple of days to figure out how to write this... My dear friend of 29 years, Luke Perry, was one of those truly special people who really cared...
Luke was not only a star, he was an incredibly bright light that was extinguished far too soon... and that is why I, and so many others, are in so much pain today...
If you had the good fortune to know Luke, or to have ever crossed his path, I know you are sad today as well... the candle that burns twice as bright only burns for half as long... you burned oh, so brightly Luke...
Goodnight Sweet Prince.
