Can you believe we’ve been keeping up with those wild and crazy kids from Teen Mom 2 for eight whole years now?!
It may be hard to believe, but it’s true – we met Kailyn Lowry, Chelsea Houska, Leah Messer, and Jenelle Evans on the second season of 16 and Pregnant, which aired in 2010.
Teen Mom 2 premiered at the beginning of 2011, and we’ve been following these ladies ever since.
And, great news, it looks like we’ll be able to continue following them just as closely, because the show just got renewed for another season!
The only thing is, MTV cameras might not be returning to Jenelle’s sinking swamp house ever again … according to The Ashley’s Reality Roundup, while the show is coming back, it might be doing so minus the Carolina Hurricane:
The Moms!
OK, just look at this picture and then imagine Briana DeJesus crammed in there somewhere, because by the time she joined the cast, the other women hated Jenelle too much to take a big group photo — here’s our girls!
Doing Great
MTV is currently airing the second half of the eighth season — it’s a little confusing, but it’s that lame thing they do to stretch out contracts. So we’re in season 8B officially.
So. Much. Drama
There’s been plenty of drama so far, including Briana’s relationship with Javi Marroquin, Kailyn’s ex-husband. They started dating, got matching tattoos, and he halfway proposed to her!
Looking Good, Leah!
Leah and her children have been adorable as always, but there’s been some question as to whether or not she’ll get back with Jeremy Calvert this season, which isn’t so cute.
Oh Hey, Kail!
Kailyn’s had a lot going on — she’s been working out custody arrangements with both Jo Rivera and Chris Lopez, and we’ve also seen a glimpse of her relationship with Dom Potter.
Awww, Chelsea!
Chelsea’s actually had a lot going on, too, which isn’t like her — the first part of the season saw her dealing with Adam Lind in court, but now we’re getting into her pregnancy!
… And Jenelle
Jenelle’s segments, meanwhile, have mostly featured David being awful, with special appearances from a police officer doing a welfare check, a suspicious amount of prescription pill bottles, and Nathan Griffith as the voice of reason. Also, her house is sinking into the ground.

So do we want a whole new season of this kind of stuff? Uh, yes, of course!

It turns out that we’re in luck, because according to a new report from The Ashley’s Reality Roundup, season 9 is a go!

“MTV isn’t about to get rid of the show, especially now with shows like Jersey Shore Family Vacation doing so well,†one source explained. And thank goodness for that!
Bri’s Back!
It’s going to be a full house again too, because despite Briana’s claims that she’d quit the show after her feud with Kailyn got physical at the taping of the reunion, she’s signed on for the new season.

Honestly, we can’t blame her — the source says that “Briana got a big pay increase because it is her second season,†and “There was no way she was turning that down.â€Â

Leah has signed on too, although the MTV insider claims that she tried to get all fancy with her new contract.

“One of the things Leah wanted was for MTV to pay for a professional makeup artist to do her makeup before she filmed,†apparently. “MTV told her no way!â€Â

Chelsea and Kailyn signed their contracts without any new demands, because they’re chill like that.

But Jenelle … as always, here’s where the true drama lies.
Dang It, David
According to the report, Jenelle has been refusing to sign her contract because she’s been trying to get David back in MTV’s good graces. For real.
Ugh
“Jenelle is only negotiating through her lawyer,” a source says. “Some of the executive producers have been on the phone [with the lawyer] for the last few days, trying to negotiate. She was not budging and MTV was not budging.â€Â
NO MORE DAVID PLEASE
“Basically, Jenelle wants David included in filming, and if that’s not possible, she wants him to be allowed to be around while she’s filming. She doesn’t care if he isn’t shown on-camera or paid. She told [the producer] that if she is filming at their home, she is not going to make David leave.”
Fair?
And that part sort of makes sense. Jenelle does the vast majority of filming in the home she shares with David, so it does seem weird for MTV to be able to demand that David leave his own house for several hours a day, you know?
On the Other Hand …
But we also couldn’t blame the crew members if they feel uncomfortable being out there on the Eason swamp with David roaming around. It’s a tough situation that could have been avoided if David was just capable of acting like a human being.

The source adds that “She also wants him to be able to attend Reunions and other filming events with her–even if he doesn’t go on camera– and for MTV to pay for his travel.”
More Money, More Problems
The contract negotiations are even more complicated, because where many networks could just throw more money at certain stars to persuade them, “They can’t offer Jenelle more money to sign because all the girls– except Briana, who was not originally part of the cast–have to make the same amount.”

“If they give Jenelle more money, they have to give the other three girls more money. They do give out different bonus deals to the girls, though.â€Â
So What Now?
The Ashley says that they’re unsure if Jenelle actually signed the contract or if she’s still holding off, but judging by some tweets she made over the weekend, it sounds like she’s really considering quitting the show.

In the middle of her big Twitter rant about how David isn’t so bad and should be allowed to be a homophobic piece of trash in peace — which, come to think of it, may have been brought on by all these negotiations — she did hint that she may not be returning for another season.
Hmmm …
She deleted the bulk of her rant, so it’s hard to know the context, but when one of her fans told her that she’d stop watching the show if she left, she replied “We will see! So far not looking pretty.”
We’ll See, Everybody
The same follower encouraged her to get her own show if she did leave Teen Mom 2, and Jenelle said “We will see. I have ideas.”
… But Will We Really?
It feels important to note at this point that Jenelle often says things like “we will see” when really, we won’t ever see, she’s just trying to make things seem mysterious and interesting when in reality, her life is falling apart.

It’s also worth mentioning that even if she did manage to land her own show somewhere, it would never work. She does all right on Teen Mom 2 because there have always been other people on the show to sort of ease the tension a little bit, but a show focused solely on Jenelle? WAY too trashy.
