For a while there, it looked as though Leah Messer and Jeremy Calvert would get back together.
The former couple was hooking up without even bothering to hide it, and more importantly, they went on some actual dates that involved more than just sleeping together.
Leah clearly wanted to give the relationship another try, and Jeremy eventually warmed up to the idea.
But then, seemingly out of nowhere, Messer and Calvert abruptly put on the brakes.
What happened?
Well, Leah cleared things up during her latest appearance on Kailyn Lowry’s podcast.

Leah Messer and Jeremy Calvert are no longer together. But there was a period of time when it looked as though they would soon be headed down the aisle again.

Yes, in recent years, Kail and Leah have become the best of friends, and they’ve enjoyed some very exotic vacations together.

One such trip recently resulted in some major consequences for Leah’s sister — but more on that later. The first topic of discussion was Leah’s relationship with Jeremy.
Speaking Out
Kail asked point-blank where Leah stands with her second husband — and for once, Leah was able to give a straightforward answer.
Different Strokes
“Jeremy and I are playful and fun and we’re really good friends, but when we try to create a relationship we just don’t work out,†Leah said. “We don’t have the same views on life.â€Â

Kail said she can relate, as she’s in a similar situation with her ex-husband, Javi Marroquin.

“That’s literally me and Javi [Marroquin],†Kail said. “Javi and I could have been best friends…we could have been, that’s the kind of dynamic, if we hadn’t gotten romantic we could have been really good friends… Javi’s very hot and cold.”
On Camera
Lowry went on to suggest that her relationship with Javi was negatively affected by reality TV fame.
Ups and Downs
“One day he’s your friend and one day he’s not,” Kail said of her relationship with her ex. “Prior to the cameras, f–k yeah. We’d be best friends, we’d be co-parenting, we’d be getting along, all of it.’â€Â
Popping the Question
Getting back to the topic of Leah and Jeremy, Messer revealed that she believes Calvert would’ve eventually proposed had the two of them remained on the path they were on.
Moving Quickly
“Jeremy’s one of my best friends, but he’s proposed to every single girl he’s been in a relationship with. Do not propose to me,†she said.
No, Thanks!
Leah and Jeremy were married in the past, but it seems Ms. Messer is not up for another go-round.
Probably Not the Answer He Would’ve Expected
“I would have said ‘What the f–k are you doing?’” Leah says of how she would have reacted to a proposal from Jeremy. “Me before would have just said yes and [gotten] married. That’s why I’ve been married twice!â€Â
Costa Rican Romance
From there, the conversation shifted to Leah’s recent travels to Costa Rica with her sister, Victoria.

Victoria, as you may know, is currently pregnant by some random guy she met during her first trip to Costa Rica.
Must Be Something in the Water!
Leah has since returned to the country with Victoria several times, and it seems she also engaged in an exotic affair.
Well, That’s a Relief
“I did meet a really great guy in Costa Rica [but] I am not pregnant!†Leah said. “I met this guy and we had a really great connection but I’m at a place in my life where I just don’t want to be committed to a relationship.”
Single and Loving It
“I am talking to people, but I’m not dating anyone,†she continued. “I’m not in a relationship with anyone. When [Jeremy] and I were figuring out our s–t we were both talking to other people.”
Dating While Famous
Leah went on to reveal that Teen Mom 2 has complicated her love life in more ways than one.
Putting It All Out There
“We’re single moms. We’re gonna date,†she said. “It is what it is. I feel like we get a lot of hell. You don’t want to film about it, but I’m gonna film dates. I am a single mom, and just because I have kids doesn’t mean I can’t go and socialize and date.
A Mom on the Market
“I definitely have reservations about dating because I feel like some people only talk to me because of the show,†she added. “But, I also feel like it is part of my life and that’s where I’m at right now.”
Opening Up
“Why wouldn’t I want to share that and why wouldn’t I want to be vulnerable?” she continued “There’s probably so many other single moms out here that probably feel the same way. Everyone’s mom-shaming these days so why not make a stand for that?â€Â
What the Future Holds
From there, Leah revealed that her sister’s international romance will continue to be featured on the show saying, “You will see it in the upcoming season of ‘Teen Mom.’ It has been a process, going back and forth between Costa Rica and the process of getting him over here.â€Â
A Complex Situation
Leah adds that her sister’s man is “scared” to move to the US, but he may have little choice in the matter. “If the baby is born in Costa Rica, with all the new laws and stuff, it could be denied citizenship here,” she said. “It could possibly not get the dual citizenship. But if it’s born here, it will have dual citizenship.â€Â
Becoming an Author
Leah concluded the interview by teasing her upcoming memoir. “It goes into my childhood and the trauma I went through in my childhood,” she said. “I feel like it’s going to give my audience a different perspective of who I am. Our show has aired for so many people, but there’s so much more to my life that people don’t know. It just gives everyone an unflinching and honest look into [my life].â€Â
