The Real Housewives of Orange County doesn't need to air new episodes for the drama to unfold.
That's why we have interviews and social media.
When Vicky Gunvalson accused Kelly Dodd of doing cocaine and neglecting her daughter, she kicked a hornet's nest.
What really got under Kelly's skin was the attack on her parenting.
Kelly doesn't need her fans to defend her though -- her daughter, 12-year-old Jolie, is doing that for her.
But Jolie's response to Vicki has some of Vicki's fans convinced that Kelly's doing a miserable job as a parent.
Take a look at how Kelly's daughter got dragged into her mom's feud.
Kelly Dodd's daughter has entered her mom's feud
To be clear, 12-year-old Jolie is siding with her mom, not with Vicki Gunvalson. There's a shocker.
Naturally, this all started with Vicki
Kelly and Vicki have had trouble before, mind you, but this time, it's Vicki stirring up rumors by accusing Kelly.
Vicki accused Kelly of doing cocaine
She also, more hurtfully, accused Kelly of neglecting her daughter.
Kelly was visibly upset
You want to accuse a fellow Housewife of doing drugs? That's ... fine-ish. Accuse someone of being a bad parent, and you'd better have some evidence to back it up.
We'd thought that Vicki had learned her lesson
Remember when she was so apoogetic over the collapse of Shannon Beador's marriage, and apologized if her unsubstantiated rumors about the couple had played a role? Well, apparently Vicki doesn't.
Kelly was not amused
And, given that the accusations involved her pre-teen daughter, she asked Jolie what SHE thinks about it now that the episode has aired.
Kelly went on Instagram to clear the air
"I never have my daughter watch this show," Kelly says. "But she is watching it today."
Jolie did not mince words when it came to defending her mom
"It’s kind of really rude, Vicki," Jolie agrees. "You're kind of a bitch."
Vicki didn't take that lying down
It seems that she's decided that Jolie is bad ... and that this is PROOF that Kelly Dodd is somehow a bad parent.
Vicki doubled down
"The fruit doesn't fall far from the tree," Vicki writes.
Some even agreed with Vicki
You can see people parroting bad parenting advice, assuming that because Kelly and her daughter get along, Kelly's too lenient. Some are just scandalized that Jolie "said a bad word." She's 12. No one is ever in their lives more foul-mouthed than they were as tweens.
As for the "disrespecting her elders" thing ...
One, old people are just like everyone else, but older. Two, this was clearly Jolie defending her mother against hateful disrespect. Kelly could have done worse and pulled a Joanna Krupa and SUED her fellow Housewife. Instead, she just shut down Vicki's rumors. Jolie was clearly eager to help.
Actually, what Jolie said was sweet -- to her mom
It looks like Kelly and Jolie have a good mother-daughter relationship, which is a hell of a lot more than some of her castmates can say. Lookin' at you, Tamra Judge.
Kelly also shaded Vicki WITHOUT her daughter
Notice the framed photo at the bottom of this honestly groan-worthy pun
It shows Vicki with Brooks Ayers
Remember, the dude who lied about having cancer? Yeah.
The implication is clear
The person who made the image is linking Vicki's accusations with her ex's penchant for lying.
We get where Vicki's coming from
She's always been a troublemaker, which is why she's a titan among the Housewives and always has been
But Kelly is right to be angry
Accusing someone of doing coke is serious, if mostly just because it's illegal. Accusing someone of being a neglectful parent is very serious -- if it's true, because someone should do something about it, but also if it's false, because it's an intense accusation.
In the end, they both have to know that they're playing roles on TV
... Right? We would like to believe that, deep down, they're only midlly irritated with each other at the most.
