Reality celeb and author Tori Spelling launched a new book Spelling It Like It Is on Oct. 22 and the big revelation is that she and her husband Dean McDermott are struggling financially.
Things are so bad, according to the mother-of-four, that the couple’s business manager nixed their plan to have Dean get a vasectomy because they can’t afford the expense. Their kids range in age from 6 to 14 months.
Aaron Spelling left an estate estimated at $600 million to his wife Candy Spelling in 2006. Tori and her uber-rich mother have a difficult relationship and in the book we are told that Candy “does not financially pay for anything.”
Tori faults her upbringing for her current situation. “I grew up rich beyond anyone’s dreams. I never knew anything else. Even when I try to embrace a simpler lifestyle I can’t seem to let go of my expensive tastes. And then there’s my shopping problem. I’ve bought ridiculous amounts of stuff for the kids, clothing, toys, crafts.”
McDermott wasn’t thrilled that the media is painting the couple as flat broke. He insists, “Right now things are going well. I have several exciting projects in the works. Our show ‘Dean and Tori’s Backyard Bash’ just re-aired to great ratings, I’ll be the new host of ‘Chopped Canada,’ and I have my first cookbook coming out — The Gourmet Dad, in the spring. Tori’s book just launched this week and things are good.”
Dean failed to mention that the family has another reality gig ‘Tori & Dean: Cabin Fever’ in the works on HGTV.
Tori stated emphatically, “I work really hard and there are certain things I want to give my kids. We’ve had lows, but I set goals and I keep going. I always bank on myself.”
