Radio City Music Hall played host to the 63rd Tony Awards on Sunday night in New York City. The show, which recognizes excellence in theater, aired on CBS and was hosted by How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris.
An amazing 45 Broadway shows opened during the 2008-2009 theater season, the highest number of productions in 25 years. Billy Elliot was a big winner with 10 awards. David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik and Kiril Kulish each received Best Performance by a Lead Actor in a Musical for their shared role.
Angela Lansbury received her 5th Tony for Blithe Spirit and Liza Minnelli won for Liza’s at The Palace. Marcia Gay Harden took Best Actress honors for God of Carnage and Geoffrey Rush took Best Actor honors in Exit the King. We’ve got photos of the award winners below.
