Rumors have been circulating about what actually happened the night Tiger Woods crashed his car into a neighbor’s tree. So what is the real story?
According to an insider, Tiger was playing poker with friends in the clubhouse on Thanksgiving night and left his cell phone at home. His wife Elin found text messages between Tiger and one of his mistresses, Rachel Uchitel. When Tiger returned home, Elin confronted him about the affair and an argument ensued. Elin did some major damage to their home with a 9 iron, and then went after Tiger, breaking his cheek bone and two of his teeth.
Tiger fled the house barefoot, while Elin chased him with the golf club, breaking out the back window of his Cadillac Escalade, and denting it in several places.
Distracted by his wife’s attack, Tiger hit a fire hydrant and tree in his neighbor’s yard. Realizing the domestic incident would damage his image, the “accident” story was concocted. Unfortunately, the incident sparked interest in the affair rumors that had begun circulating in the days leading up to the “accident,” adding fuel to the fire, and uncovering a scandal that has tarnished the golfer’s carefully cultivated image.
Tiger was flown to Arizona for plastic surgery, which is why he has been in hiding. After trucks were seen hauling items out of the couple’s Florida home, reports began circulating that Elin was moving out, however, the trucks were actually removing the damaged items from the house .
Although Elin hired a divorce attorney, the couple are currently seeing a marriage counselor.
I do not in any way condone Tiger’s affairs, but does it really justify such a violent attack? The police are aware of the events of the evening, so this begs a question — are we seeing a domestic violence double standard here? Chris Brown was prosecuted and has been crucified in the media for his attack on Rihanna (and rightfully so), but we are seeing no backlash for Elin Nordegren‘s vicious attack on her husband, when it doesn’t take a genius to figure out the tale being spun about the events of that fateful night just don’t add up.
