Miss Venezuela 2009 Stefania Fernandez was named Miss Universe 2009 on Sunday night at the Atlantis paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas. It was a back to back win for the Latin American country, the sixth time in pageant history.
Placing the coveted jeweled crown on the 18-year-old beauty queen’s head was the reigning Miss Universe 2008 Dayana Mendoza, who jumped up and down with obvious pleasure.
Judged on evening gown, swimsuit and interview, Fernandez has won a prize package that includes a $100,000 acting scholarship to a New York acting academy, a Manhattan apartment for one year, clothing, jewelry and an undisclosed monetary gift.
Finishing as 1st Runner-up was Miss Dominican Republic – Ada de la Cruz; 2nd Runner-up was Miss Kosovo – Marigona Dragusha; 3rd Runner-up was Miss Australia – Rachael Finch; 4th Runner-up was Miss Puerto Rico – Mayra Matos.
Miss Congeniality was Miss China 2009 Wang Jingyao and Miss Photogenic was Miss Thailand Chutima Durangdej. Miss USA Kristen Dalton was among the Top 10.
